What you've got to remember is that ther have been different styles of helmet over depending on which artist has been drawing Dreddy-boy

Yes, the look of Dredd has altered depending on the artist. He look okay, I'm not wowed by it, but he looks okay. If he acts the part then he should do well.

This film could be ok if we had any other choice but to assume the film studio will go for the dumbed down PG13 certificate.

The small shoulder pads make the shoulder look a bit weak. I think bigger shoulder pads would give the impression the frame of the actor is bigger.

Notice how Urban's shoulders look a bit round. Had they gone with larger shoulder pad it would 'square' the actor's frame, his shoulders would look more square or rectangular making him appear more physically imposing. A classic example of this is American footballers:

His slope too much making him seem less muscular. Had they gone with bigger shoulder pads it would have boosted the top part of Urban's body. This is basic common sense. It's a big mistake to dismiss Dredd's imposing stature and go with small pads. It's a bit sad how the film makers can't see this.

Clint Eastwood as Judge Dredd. I modified the uniform and added a flatish eagle emblem to the front of the right shoulder pad:

Having the eagle on the front doesn't make it stick out. The eagle would stick out a lot if you did an exact copy of the uniform.

You can see how wimpy Dredd looks - how he has zero upper body muscle definition. Dredd is meant to have broad shoulders and high shoulder pads but what are we getting - yep, that lame image on the right. The producers have ruined the look of Dredd in their pursuit of so-called 'realism'.

Yeah, well done, 'Dredd producers' Rebellion and DNA Films.

Wow - it's uncanny how similar they look. There was me worried they wouldn't be able to recreate the actual comic book uniform in a live action film but wow, what an achievement!



Yep, it looks nothing like the image on the left. Totally lame, pathetic reinvention of the look.

Perhaps they should retitle the film:

Cos that's the only vibe I'm getting.

The suits look very good in Empire - tough and practical. And I liked the exchange between Urban and the producers, where they said when first meeting him they didn't plan to have Dredd remove his helmet, and Urban said he wouldn't have taken the meeting if they did.

The absence of satire sounds a bit odd, with that being such a big part of Dredd's world, but overall I'm quite hopeful about this film. I'm not expecting the moon, just a decent action film that's hopefully successful enough to produce a bigger budget sequel.

But looks nothing like the original uniform. How about the uniform being tough, practical and actually having some resemblance to the original look? That isn't too much to expect, is it? Well, clearly it is but it's a shame.

I've been reading 2000AD since 1983 and expected any proper Judge Dredd film to retain the original uniform look - with a few minor changes to adapt it to a live action film. But this isn't a few minor changes, the changes have altered the entire look of the character. The shoulder pads are virtually non-existent, there are needless chest pads, the badge is almost identical to the Stallone version, the arms have too much padding, the entire look resembles a SWAT team member not a MC-1 Judge.

It's a huge mistake gving Karl Urban round sloping shoulders which is not how Judge Dredd looks. Judge Dredd's large shoulder pads give him a broad horizontal frame and this is totally missing from Urban's frame. He looks puny compared to how Judge Dredd should look.

Plus, Karl Urban, good actor he may be, has zero type Judge Dredd chin. There must have been more appropriate looking actors out there. Somone with a decent Judge Dredd type chin.

Don't necessarily need to have the full eagle pads but something more than the sloped ones would be sensible generally wouldn't it?
Look more like gymnasts ready to roll and dive rather than hard men smashing down doors with those shoulders.
Looks pretty good though. We all knew it's never be perfect going from strip to screen but this is pretty good. And really it shouldbe very easy to transfer the system of Dredd's world into a movie.
Although the Stallone film was bad, one little bit of it I remember was very good, When the taxi went over the city, it gave an idea of scale that the street bits never did.

In the comics Dredd basically wears blue lycra with big brass ornaments. It's easy to see why they decided that wouldn't work in a more realistic, less satirical take on the material. The suits in the film look like they're designed to stop bullets and let the judges get stuck into dangerous situations.

That is Karl Urban as Judge Dredd but retaining the original 2000AD Judge Dredd uniform. It's only when you do a photoshop that you can see it would work. Without a photoshop manipulation you can't tell, people just assume the uniform won't work. But as you can see, it will work. I reduced the size of the eagle shoulder pad to make it look more credible. Both shoulder pads would be smaller than the 2000AD version but not as tiny as the Urban version in the film.

I much prefer the movie version, to be honest. I know which version I'd pick to win in a fight.

If that could be accurately recreated in a live action film, I reckon it would look fantastic. The Judge Minty fan film uniform is good but it's a bit too big but something like that photoshopped image would work, I'm 99 percent convinced.

There aren't enough Judge Dredd fans out there to complain about the new look and most people going to see Dredd 2012 - assuming they want to see it - don't care or even know how Judge Dredd is meant to look. Sadly, fans like myself, expecting a proper version of the uniform, are in the minority.

needs to have their head examined! One thing is making changes for a live action film but to come up with a uniform that looks nothing like the original version is wrong and disrespectful.

Anyone arguing to the contrary is wrong so I wouldn't waste your time trying.

Not interested in arguing with you, I don't mind the uniform....the helmet is the most important part. As long as he is not running about in leggings & a t-shirt (thanks sly) then I am fine. Not being convinced by what we know of the storyline is my biggest worry.
