Intermittent on screen time display

I have a Sony Bravia KDL-32S2530 TV linked by SCART or HDMI to a Humax HDR-Fox T2 PVR. Software 1.02.07 although I don't think this relevant as earlier versions gave the same results.
When watching programmes via the PVR there is a small box in the bottom right-hand corner showing the time.
Recently this disappeared after inadvertently pressing one of the PVR buttons. Which one I don't know. After fiddling with the TV and PVR controller it came back after a few days. Humax say it must be the TV producing the display.
Has anyone else noted this display and can give some guidance how to recover it when lost?
The time display is not there when viewing programmes direct on the TV and not via the PVR.
