New Point and Shoot camera recommendations
Im after a new camera. I know what my requirements are but peoples recommendations of what they have used are better than just reading specs I think.
I did have a Casio Exilim but thats gone to camera heaven. Things it must be able to do 1 - Cope with night photos. I go to a lot of concerts so want something that copes with the flashing light levels. Also its for going to NYC so needs to cope with all the neon. 2 - Fast shutter speed so that when I take a pic its instant. The Exilim was quite slow so if you took a picture of something going past you it had gone past before the picture took! 3 - Good zoom without losing picture quality. 4 - Rechargeable battery 5 - Fit in my jeans pocket. A compact rather than a big camera 6 - Price no more than £200 Any recommendations please? |

I've been using a Samsung ST1000 for over a year now and it's been more than perfect. I think you can still get them sub-200 on ebay.
Before that I was using various IXUS models and never found fault, but the Samsung is just loaded with gadgets like GPS, WiFi, Bluetooth, etc. |

I've got one of these:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Canon-PowerS...0920747&sr=8-1 I can verify it's brilliant for gigs. ISO goes up to 1600 without much loss of image quality, nice long zoom so you can get decent pics even if you're not right at the front, and it has a range of settings. There's a decent flash for indoor darker pics (not for gigs, or you get washout). It takes SD cards, the rechargable battery has good life. Doesn't constantly need charging. I got mine last year and it was nearer £300 then! |
