Hi just thought I would ask people what there first 5.1 home cinema setup was and what do you have now?

Mine was a awia hifi with Dolby pro logic surround sound it was connected to the old telewest catv box with RCA phono leads with no subwoofer connected I used to swap the leads over to watch DVDs on my 21" CRT tv

I now have sky hd with a Sony str-dh810 7.1 av receiver with an abox 360 and a samsung 46" tv my how times have changed lol

My first was a Yamaha DSP-A1 which, like yours, is still going strong on our second system!

Mine was a Yamaha DSP-A2 (Couldn't afford the A1 ) it was a great piece of kit with an amazing remote control

It was paired with a Sony BDP7700 DVD player - a beautifully built piece of kit (about £900 chipped IIRC) and still going strong in my son's house.

Speakers were Mission - really hi fi speakers rather than AV but nice all the same.

Firstly used an Aiwa Hi-Fi. Wasn't true 5.1 but a much better sound than you got from the TV.

Next had a 40 Toshiba inch rear-projection set with 5.1 built in - added additional speakers and a sub though.

Next had a LG DVD / Home cinema combo, which came as part of a package with a 42 inch plasma. ( a bargain at £3500... what was I thinking )

Lastly I have had a Yamaha AV receiver for about 5 years. Absolutely love it but it doesn't get much use these days with young children in the house.

The only reason I had the A1 is because the replacement A1Z, if my memory serves me correctly, had just come out and the dealer wanted to get rid of his A1 stock so I paid @ £600 for it!

I also had a Nakamichi DVD-10S DVD player and Mission 77 Series Centre and Rear speakers, to go with the Mission 732 speakers I had for my Hi-Fi at the time, and a M&K VX-7 Sub!

The DVD player sadly died, but the Centre & Rear speakers, along with the Sub are still in use daily.

I seem to remember my Missions were 753 Freedoms at the front and standmounters at the rear.

Mine's a 7.1 system consisting of a Denon 3802 feeding 2 pairs of Mission 773s with a 77C1 front and a pair of Mission 77DS rear speakers with a BK gemini II sub. Used to be a Celestion S80 sub but that now hums.

A Denon AVR-3805 set-up for 7.1 with KEF KHT2005.2 speakers/sub-woofer and the infamous Denon DVD-2900 universal player. Only used it for a short while before I moved house and the new owner bought the speakers and my plasma off of me. Still have the AVR-3805 boxed in the garage if anyone is interested in it!
