Humax Foxsat HDR - Tuner 2 at 50% quality
I'm having problems with the 2nd tuner. Tuner 1 is at 90% strength, 50% quality but Tuner 2 is at 50% for both.
This causes problems when recording two things at once and I often get picture breakup, especially on Channel 4 HD. Looking at the signal strength on each channel, everything is well into the green for both bars until channel 4 hd (126) and many channels after that also have a weak signal on the 2nd bar. I'm not sure what to do to improve the Tuner 2 strength. Any ideas? |

Done a bit more reading and I think I got some of the above wrong.
The 2 bars when pressing info are actually strength (top) and quality (bottom), not Tuner 1 and 2. So channels before 126 are 90% strength, 100% quality on both Tuners. Channel 126 and many higher channels are 85% strength, 50% quality. Maybe the dish alignment is a bit out? |

I've been through the list of channels and tried each unique combination of frequency/polarisation/bird and block.
Channels that were less than 50% quality were: Movies4men+1 Smooth RadioUK JML DIRECT Ocean TV with Movies4men+1 and Smooth RadioUK down at 20% with picture breakup. Here is a summary of the results: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/35707662/signalsummary.png and the full results: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/35707662/Cha...20Strength.pdf Though I'm not sure when this means I need to do to improve the signal quality for Channel 4 HD (currently at 50% quality) ? |

Thanks Graham,
I've actually got a couple of 6db attenuators. Just tried but it didn't make any difference. Maybe I need a new lnb? |

What a nightmare. I spent an age moving the dish about. A couple of mm in any of the 3 axis could be the difference between a good signal and no signal at all!
Every time I got a good signal and tightened everything up again the signal disappeared. It must have moved a bit even the it didn't appear to. Anyway, I've now got a decent signal. The worst offender, channel 305, has gone from 85%/20% to 90%/60%. Channel 4 HD has gone from 85/50 to 90/70 so I'm confident this will be good enough to not break up when recording 2 channels and watching another. Thanks for your help, Graham. |

This is due to the fact that it's one of the very few high band vertical TV channels. Basically one channel of the two you are recording must be one of these. 207 CNN 120 S4C 135 CBS Reality 805 Gems TV 806 TV Shop 817 Rocks & Co 1 818 Gems TV Extra 808 JML DIRECT 809 JML COOKSHOP 143 Men & Movies 401 Wedding TV Asia 816 QVC Beauty 650 Ocean TV 803 Pitch TV 804 Pitch World Not a lot of choice. choice of the third channel does not depend on having a good signal. Here's how to work out the possible combinations http://myhumax.org/forum/topic/what-...-1-or-2-cables |

The channel 4 HD picture seemed to break up more often when recording another channel, but it must just have been my imagination or coincidence.
Hopefully everything will be stable now
