USB 2.0 Audio Adapter Pro (USB to Toslink)

Has anyone used a USB to Toslink to get dolby digital audio out of a laptop and into a home cinema setup?

I've got a laptop with a bluray player and HDMI out. On our TV there is a optical audio output but this will only deliver dolby prologic.

So the plan is to connect a USB adapter to the laptop and home cinema amp via optical.

It's not the end of the world as the adapter is only £23. But if it works I won't have to buy a dedicated bluray player.

Never seen such a device, finding it hard to imagine how it would work. Have you a link ? Are you sure your laptop wont output s/pdif from one of the conventional outputs. Conversion from a coax s/pdif to a toslink cable is easily managed.

Here it is

The laptop is a Toshiba P755-113. It has a 3.5mm headphone output, HDMI, VGA and USB.

It should work provided your BD player software can send the audio bitstream directly to the audio device.

It's a USB sound card with an optical output. Not uncommon at all.

The adapter arrived today. After a little confusion I had it working correctly within 30 minutes. Does exactly as it should. Well pleased.
