The Smiths Top Poll
In the most extensive Poll ever conducted by the music press in the UK the Smiths came out as Best ever British Band. The Top 10 were;
1) The Smiths 2) The Beatles 3) Queen 4) Rolling Stones 5) Led Zeppelin 6) U2 7) Coldplay 8) Sex Pistols 9) Oasis 10) The Stone Roses Chosen by over 100 Rock journalists. What do you think. Personally I think they have got it spot on. The Smiths were a light that will never go out. |

Can't disagree with the top 5, although I might change the order, but Coldplay and U2 with no Floyd/Who? Terrible choices.

I know that music is subjective, butthat list is pure shite. Well, bar three bands (The Stones, Queen and Zeppelin) that is.

That's a pretty good list
The Beatles should be at number one though. Apart from Coldplay the other nine I can't disagree with. Instead of Coldplay maybe the Small Faces or the Kinks should be present.

Coldplay? Coldplay? WTF is wrong with people's ears? And where are The Who?
Still at least the Beatles aren't top. |

In YOUR opinion. It isnt fact. As a massive Smiths fan I cant dissagree with the top position. I would also put The Jam in there somewhere, along with, of course,SHACK!!!

The Kinks should definitely be on it somewhere near the top and if Coldplay are in it, Radiohead should be.
Completely agree with the number one spot but I'm surprised. |

I'd have probably replaced Coldplay and the Sex Pistols. Agreed that PInk Floyd should be in there.

IMO The Smiths shouldn't be number one and the Clash and the Jam should be in there somewhere probably replacing one of Coldplay, Sex Pistols or Oasis and definately replacing the Stone Roses

This is bound to be shifted to the music forum and will be followed by claims that JLS and the Saturdays should have been included

The Smiths had a couple of decent tunes but they were ruined by the worst vocalist that ever walked the face of the planet. U2, Coldplay and Oasis need to die. The rest: meh.

I agree with everything apart from Coldplay. Free should occupy that slot.

In my experience lists like this will always cause dispute, but how can The Smiths be above The Beatles (and I am not their greates fan) The Beatles changed music more than any other band.
Also doesnt include The Who, Radiohead, The Jam, The Small Faces, The Kinks and The Arctic Monkeys. As much as I despise Queen I understand why they are there, Coldplay are you sure? |

Pretty much agree with most of the list, but Coldplay and U2 should be replaced with Pink Floyd and The Who. So glad to see The Smiths at number one, for me they're the best ever

I would have taken The Smiths & The Stone Roses off that list for reasons of mediocrity.
Add Radiohead (definitely) and The Cure. Then take U2 off as they aren't British and add Pink Floyd. |

1 - source, please...
2 - and the average age of these journalists is, I would guess, 35, tops. |
