I think it is.... But in fairness "Suck It And See" and "King Of The Limbs" were probably the two biggest let downs this year... For me anyway!

Just goes to show doesn't it, I thought Suck and See was their best since the debut.

Only like two tracks on King of Limbs though.

A week after 21's release, I thought Adele would be a shoo in to win, but I honestly think the album is 'Too Big' to win now IFKWIM?

PJ Harvey, I'm not so sure. She's already won once and an act has never won twice before in Mercury history, so I just don't know.

Either of these or Katy B & I would be happy though.

Metronomy HAVE to win this year. Katy B would also make a very worthy winner.

They seem to have the list pretty spot on this year, but I'm a tiiiiny bit gutted about Yuck and Friendly Fires missing out on nominations.

Can't believe Hurts got left out Katy B and Adele shouldn't even be on there, way too commercial, this prize is heading downhill quickly, some of last years nominations were very dodgy. I recon PJ Harvey will get it, she's always a critics favorite.

i really want katy B to win!!!

i think it'll go to Adele, Pj harvey or Tinie tempah

Everything Everything's album is a pretty great one... As is Anna Calvi's.... I reckon they could be the dark horses!

Being too commercial has got nothing to do with being nominated:-

Quote:
“The Barclaycard Mercury Prize exists solely to champion music in the UK, mainly through the 'Albums of the Year' competition, which celebrates recorded music of all genres by British or Irish artists. The twelve Albums of the Year are announced each July with the overall winner decided on the night of the Awards Show in September. The music on the album is the only thing taken into account.”

Being too commercial to win is another matter though.....

Another vote for Everything Everything here - and a shame Hurts didn't get nominated

I reckon PJ Harvey is the favourite, and deservedly so. I hope Metronomy or Anna Calvi win though, both superb albums. Bit disappointed Clare Maguire didn't get nominated.

Good point regarding Clare Maguire. I forgot about her.

I dont get all the love for tinie tempah, hes probably the worst lyricist ive ever heard, also dont get the elbow nod, as much as i am a fan build a rocket boys is a boring album, think they were just put there because theyre credible, anna calvis a poor mans pj harvey and in saying that i didnt think let england shake was that great an album either. i think metronomy or katy b deserve it two really good albums

I've found that with pretty much all the Elbow albums, bar Asleep in the Back which I instantly knew was something very special. I'm a big Elbow fan but it does take a few listens to really appreciate what they're doing. When I take into account the lyrical beauty, musical technicality and attention to detail which goes into each song I find myself overwhelmed with admiration. I actually remember feeling a bit disappointed when I first bought Cast of Thousands because I expected it to be an album of Fugitive Motels, then after a few listens I realised how much their music could subtlely get under your skin if you gave it a chance. I have complete faith in them now and think they are one of the truly awesome greats of modern British music.

Elbow are so subtle that they can get masses of air play on Top Gear and yet most people still won't know who they are if you start talking about them.

I haven't heard enough of most of the other nominees to comments, though obviously Adele is dire.

I find it a travesty Cornershop weren't nominated AGAIN, what the hell do they have to do to get recognition for the band that they are?

I honestly thought their new album, with the Punjabi singer and the mix of dance and rock would see them a shoo-in for a nomination

She's an incredibly intense performer, when I saw her live it was like some kind of spiritual trance she put over the audience. It was incredible.

Gutted about Hurts, it was a truly tremendous pop record. Not a fan of Katy B at all, never ever thought she'd get a nod. I'd love Metronomy, Everything Everything, Anna Calvi or James Blake. Adele's album is a really great album and I think it definitely deserved a nomination but pretty positive she won't win.

I'm going to give the albums/artists I've never heard a listen now to see if I like any of them.

I agree with everything you said. The Anna Calvi album was recommended to me but I wasn't that impressed. As you said it was too derivative of PJ. Everyone seemed to love Let England Shake, but I found it boring musically although good lyrically, I miss the older more punk/blues PJ harvey. To me now she is too self indulgent and boring.

The PJ Harvey album is brilliant but even though it'll probably be the overwhelming favourite I don't expect it to win. I think they are much more likely to choose Katy B so that's who my money would be on. I've got to say though, of all the artists nominated, Katy B is the only one who's music does absolutely nothing for me and where I don't get the fuss at all.

Adele's 21 has had too much success to win this, as much as it's deserved.

I predict Metronomy or Ghostpoet, with an outside chance of Katy B.

Elbow won't win it so close to their last prize.

Disappointed to see Clare Maguire & Hurts snubbed- they both produced brilliant records.

Gutted them two acts and Friendly Fires were not nominated... they deserve it...

I just listened to Ghostpoet I really like him so I hope he will get it or Metronomy or PJ Harvey.

Friendly Fires would have also been deserving nominees!

Surprised no nod for Jessie J either (assuming she's elligible)
