Is the Mercury Music Award for Songwriting?

Then why on earth is Adele nominated - she didn't write any of the songs. Let her win any awards she wants for singing the dirges but to accept an award for "co-writing' would make Rupert Murdoch seem an honest dude by comparison.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought the Ivor Novello was the award for songwriting and the Mercury is for album of the year?

Don't fret, Jack, she isn't going to win so chill. The album has sold far too well for her to get the Mercury - but they had to nominate her to get any sort of general public interest in the award (and i guess they are hoping to get her to sing on the night to boost ratings). Happens every year. Gwilym Simcock ftw. No idea if he's any good but he deserves it for the name alone.

But she did write the songs. Yes she did co writing compared to 19 but so what. She wrote Someone like you by herself though.

They can't let her win, she would probably eat the prize.

It's about finding the album that best represents the music scene in the UK and Ireland in the last year.... What the criteria for that is, I don't know!

Jack soon is correct she co-wrote every song on 21 which is what he said, she only wrote every song herself on 18.
This is standard info, whould have though adele fans would have been clear as to who wrote what on her albums, writing credits must be on the cd booklet.

The OP has mugged himself well and truly off, the award is for best album not songwriting.

Even if it was she had a hand in all the songs it would appear (not that I knew that)

Rubbish load of albums. Even James Blake is nominated.
