See my new thread on the SES Facebook app for satellites - it is very strange that the 1N spot beam footprint is not shown - are they not using it after all ? Is there any way of knowing? Judging by the S/Q reports from all over Western Europe it doesn't look like they are using a narrow beam for C4 HD and the gang of 5 which is what was supposedly the reason for holding back on new FTA channels.

two millon plus freesat boxes sold plus one million five hundred thousand skyboxes wiht just freesat thats over three million five hundred thousand boxes, say twenty million veiwers that must interest advertisers
But the chances are they're already watching the ads albeit in SD. The number of 'new' viewers they would get is small. Certainly not enough to offset the subscription income they would lose.

Sounds like your dish may need a tiny bit of tweeking - you should be getting 100/100 (or very close to it with the power of 1N).
That's as good as it'll get using ~39cm dish!
Picture is now looking better...

I'm inclined to agree with you, except that, if HD doesn't attract more eye balls, it would seem a waste of money for ITV, CH4 or five to broadcast any free HD anywhere. Yet there's three of their HD channels on Freeview, and two of them on Freesat. The costs are significant, and by your reasoning, bring no commercial benefit.

Cheers,
David.

I must get Freesat to clarify their recent press release.

47% of Freesat customers switched from Sky in 2011 to date
According to Freesat customer research, a record 47% of its customers have come from Sky
households so far in 2011
Both statements in the same press release. Which one is correct?
Both are, since they mean the same thing.

Now. what next?

When is 7701 (The Channel 5 weaker copy of the one on the BBC transponder) going to be renamed and go FTA?

What is ITV up to? What are they up to with their "7480" HD channel on 11053H?

Questions, questions.........

Because they wouldn't want the BBC to be the only service carrying their main programmes in HD?

'Switched from Sky' means they've changed from Sky to Freesat.

'From Sky households' means they have bought a Freesat box, but still may have Sky.

7701 is on the 1N channel 5 cluster 10964H 22000 5/6

It's encrypted but only in FTV so I can watch it on may SkyHD box.

It's a copy of the Channel5 (part network) that is currently on the BBC transponder at 10773H.

I think that it will go FTA, rename and then get added to the EPG in place of the BBC transponder one. They will then cut the BBC transponder one, saving them money.

But when?

Also when will ITV be running a 3D service?

This afternoon ITV turned off its two regions (Central S and Central E) on Astra 2b south, 11973V.

They're now on 1N at 11053H, 22000, 5/6.

These two were favourites with small dish caravanners and expats in Spain. However, reports are coming in of them being available on an 80cm dish just south of Torrevieja (much larger needed for 2d).

There's only one broadcast 3D. The difference is down to the TV using using active or passive glasses.

Two 960 x 1920 frames squashed side by side into a single 1920 x 1080 frame.

No problem

Original 1920 x 1080 frame

http://www.4shared.com/photo/RwdUp1p...edon6orig.html

Resized to 3840 x 1080 to recreate the two 16:9 frames

http://www.4shared.com/photo/k_exU5Qr/Wimbledon6.html

They are framegrabs from the actual stream not photos of the screen.

I understand that Foxsat HDR shows with "i" button as follows:
a) HD icon leftish jf this channel is HD
b) HD icon rightish if this is SD but HD also available

So e.g,
BBC1HD, BBCHD, ITV1HD, CH4HD have HD icon leftish
BBC1SD (non local), ITV1SD, CH4SD etc have HD icon rightish
CH5SD BBCTHREE, etc has no HD icon

However curiously E4 has HD icon rightish during Hollyoaks
Does this mean there is an E4 HD version imminent?

Teasing us? or a cock-up?
