Merideian South HD is on a BBC transponder

I believe only Granada is the 'full' HD but perhaps someone else can confirm this is the case.

I read some weeks back (I think it was on on another forum) that the plan is to eventually have two dedicated transponders (1N?) for HD channels to accommodate 6 ITV1 HD macro regions, STV HD and UTV HD, all FTA.

And the $Ky transponder deal may have specified that 50% of ITV1 HD channels would be encrypted. We just don't know. Speculation is based on previous $Ky behaviour with unnecessary use of 2D transponders to deny FTA channels a FTA outlet.

Yep, possibly. There's no reason why Meridian and Central West ITV1HD need encryption but guess it's something like that. I reckon ITV will activate their own HD Txp on 1N next year in DVB-S2 and bring those all across (plus have space for a fourth).

Maybe this is why ITV have not launched any more HD variants of ITV1HD becuase only two are permitted FTA as part of the Sky transponder deal (even those not on that transponder!).

I still believe it's linked to BARB viewing figures and advertising sales. As each platform is collated separately, it's more accurate to split Freesat's figures into two specific regions.

When you look at how low the reach is for ITV1 HD across all platforms, you can see why.

So along with ITV1 HD Granada that's basically all three on the 2D 10936V transponder.

Basically, it's the three handled by Sky. The ITV and BBC uplinked ones are the lower res.

No belief system required, just more money than sense.

Remember ITV1 HD Granada is already FREE and in full HD.

Seems you have too. Didn't realise you had Sky HD, until earlier today.

But it looks like ITV are moving their channels off of at least 3 of the Sky leased transponders.

Have it, but not over the moon with it or the cost and have no finacial interest in it.

In fact was going to dumped the HD mix next year but may as well keep it as I'm an F1 fan.

Love Freesat and learning all the technical side. Have a PC card and DVBViewer. Free PVR functions! Unencrpted so I can do what I like with my programmes.

So the more that can shift from Sky to Freesat the better as far as I'm concerned.

Still, let's try and keep this thread about 1N - Delivering more FTA content for Freesat.

That's a shame if it means a drop in resolution for the two ITV1 HD regions that Sky do for them.

And don't forget STV HD with it's alternate movie choices.

Unlikely, given the far bigger spot beam capacity on 1N.

Can't see why they would drop especially if they switch to DVB-S2. In fact ITV1 HD (other than the one on the BBC transponder) and NHK World HD are the only HD channels at 28.2E not using DVB-S2

Those who are expecting ITV2/3/4HD to go FTA are it appears out of luck (not unexpectedly).

Quote:
“He said(Adam Crozier) the commercial broadcaster plans to increase its pay-TV presence “in the UK and internationally”, hinting that it could look to push its pan-Asia channel ITV Granada into new territories or develop other international offerings.

ITV dipped its toe into the pay-TV market in the UK last year when it launched high definition versions of ITV2, ITV3 and ITV4 on the Sky+ HD package. But the broadcaster has so far been unable to fulfil its ambition of securing carriage on Virgin Media platforms.

Crozier said revenues from the Sky deal had been “better than expected”, but stressed that any further push into the pay TV market would not mean making entire ITV channels subscription only.

He would not comment on the precise details of the plans because they were “commercially sensitive”.”

You really can not help yourself can you!

Crozier will not be at ITV forever, lets just hope he doesn't completely ruin ITV before he goes like did with royal mail! (remember the days when the post arrived at a reasonable time! )
Could you please stop posting BSkyB propaganda in these forums!

LOL. Yeah, because they've been on 1N for so long they've had MASSES of time to rework their codecs haven't they?

Hopefully Channel 4 will get another HD channel or two. That will also encourage ITV to do the same, as they won't want to be left behind.
