There's a 4.2m on La Cumbre del Sol. I don't know much about it, but it's in its own compound so I assume it's some sort of communal system.

This is just my opinion, this move to 1N was not taken lightly & I am sure there must be a problem with 2D we don't know about.

I also feel Sky will be annoyed, as a good few abroad will kill their subscriptions ( that of course never exist), anyhow all you colleagues abroad, enjoy it while you can, as the stores say

I don't think the euro area care about uk tv they have more proplems with the countreis next door to them it's just the expats that will miss uk TV

It's swings and roundabouts. The main beneficiaries seem to be those in the Valencia to Murcia 2d cold spot, but those in Cyprus (from what I gather) have completely lost their UK FTA channels.

Those further south in Spain in the main expat area of Costa del Sol will be the same as before on a much smaller dish than was required in the Costa Blanca.

We can’t do that in the UK because we could be extradited by the US government and put in prison in the USA.

According to this:
http://www.ses.com/4628803/astra-2d
it has (had) a life expectancy of 15 years.

Wonder if it got damaged in the recent solar activity, or they have noticed an onboard system degrading..

I presume there is no backup capacity left at 28.2E now and if anything else failed they would have to start dropping channels?

Well they could have dropped the scrambled ones to start with.

Or just closer to the end of life than initially thought and the picture break up of certain channels was the start of it saying its dying?
Imagine the piss and moan Sky would make if something went tits up and there channels went off air.. Better than a Chubby gig would that be

Were there any Sky channels on 2d? I thought it was just Disney stuff now.

I would have thought the UK FTA channels would have been moaning more.

This from SES in 1999 says 12 years.. so I dunno...

That's why Sky leases transponders across all the satellites. It's called risk mitigation in that if one satellite went 'tits up' then some form of decent service could still be maintained across the rest.

Sky do sub-lease quite a few transponders / transponder space to broadcasters as part of a one stop shop to facilitate them getting up and running on satellite. No encrypted channel really needed to be on 2D (or 1N now). Disney, Nickelodeon and RTE/Irish channels are still there and I suspect these are Sky leased transponders though someone may have better information and are welcome to correct me.

Sky pay RTÉ's carriage fees. So their 1N transponder would be leased by Sky.

I think the ex pats reporting enhanced reception would have noticed . There's always a few conspiracy theorists.

And while we are on about ex pats - has anyone out on the fringe near Alicante & Javea etc managed to get a good system up and running based on a 1.1m dish - I notice many companies are offering to install such systems for 399euros !!! - but what happens once 1N moves on is anybodies guess! So has anyone around there got a new system up and running - and if so what is the nightime reception like? And what do they intend doing when 1N moves on?

399 euros for that is a complete rip off. I paid 280 for installation of a 1m dish complete with quad LNB and all cabling back into my apartment.

Not really related to this thread but not also not really worthy of its own thread...

I just noticed there are 4 ports on my satellite's LNB. Only two have cables running to them (in a line: cable, no cable, cable, no cable). Does this means it's a quad LNB or could the two extra ports be for something else?

It's a quad lnb. Only other thing it could be is a quattro, if it was a quattro all 4 outputs would be wired to a multiswitch.

You can use them for any digital satellite box.

Cool beans. BlackGold don't have a dedicated 2xDVB-S2 or 4xDVB-S2 card unfortunately but I think TBS do. Might grab one of those in the future.

Thats one of the problems with many of the companies advertising these systems in Spain. They are "accidently" forgetting to mention that these channels are only on a small dish for a short term. Or giving some BS when asked about it. It is also bringing out a load of "cowboys" that appeared last time when the rebroadcasters were affected a few yewars ago.

399 euros is expensive for a 1m dish - hope they have a decent HD receiver in there also. (if it is the 399 email I have seen then dish and receiver they offer cost them about 145 euros so a nice profit for them even with installation costs!)

I am in Gandia and my 80cm dish gets all 24/7.
In Denia and Javea, you need bigger 90 or 1m. And reception has been fine for those that I have seen.

I think I will take my PF 1.2M Tagra down to Javea next time I go there and see what it performs like with a Humax Foxsat and Invacom lnb - must be better than the microwave relay - even if only for a year or two!

It will work fine, as long as you have a decent LNB, and clear line of sight. I got faint traces of BBC freqs on a 70cm dish nr Javea the other day, nothing useable it is just too small, but a 1.2 is no problems...

Anyone notice an increase in signal quality last evening? mine shot up 20% for no reason.

What intrigues me is why 2D has been shut down so quickly and unceremoniously. I know it was coming to the end of its life, but the original reason given for 1N to divert to 28.2 rather than go straight to 19.2 was to provide extra capacity, not to replace 2D. That was to be the job of 2E, F and G. Has something gone wrong with 2D that we don't know about?
