Possibly so but in the world of Satellite broadcasting these things are a secret so we'll probably all never know unless we see 2D 'junked' in to a Graveyard orbit soon'ish. My guess is they've freed it up for use at a not so critical location for something or for SNG use?

We'll have to see if it moves from 28.2E, they may have made the decision to keep it there purely as a backup but not in use until 2F arrives. Even then it could remain in situ further until 2E also arrives when it will finally be moved? Who knows (apart from SES?).

It would make sense to me to prolonge 2D's *potential* future as a backup by moving it's existing services to 1N + gives SES further use of the craft potentially long after it's ceased service for DTH use. 1N is in use anyway now so why not move 2D's TP's across was probably the thinking of SES.

Maybe, that is why there is a rush on to moving everything from 2D to 1N

There were a lot of complaints about breakup on the BBCs for the last few days prior to moving which would suggest something was failing.
i was also wondering if the upcoming Olympics would increase the need for extra capacity and security for all the international broadcasters?

Not exactly on topic however there is what could be an interesting documentary tonight on BBC2 9-10 p.m. entitled "In Orbit: How Satellites Rule Our World" - they sure rule ours on this forum

So as reported elsewhere:

The 1N Channel 4 transponder has a new channel.

11126V 22000 5/6

New Label "21250" has video and audio streams but not showing anything yet.

Video is mpeg2 coming in at a stead 3MBits/s - So it's an SD channel: Probably that new waste of space one that covers the last 7 days???

The transponder is also back to DVB-S so it can be manually tuned on Irish Sky subs.

3 Mbps? Pretty high for an SD channel these days. :/

Wait until they launch more channels on the transponder, it'll soon drop!

If you miss something on Channel 4 HD, 4Seven might be the better place to record it from next time as it won't be in HD but it'll be damn good SD compared to the normal Channel 4 or Channel 4+1 variants.

It may not stay on that transponder for ever, indeed it could move elsewhere depending on C4's HD plans as they can easily switch back to DVB-S2 depending on what they choose to do with their other services HD-wise.
