Now Astra 2d is on the move (28.08). Looks like they're playing musical chairs at 28.2

Only 36 hours or so to go, or to put it in Air India speak, a "small stopover at Gatwick"

Probably not for a few days but your right, there will be some interesting movements take place over the next Month or so. I'm sure there's a lot of people (particularly the expats) keen to see how tight the actual footprint is once it's on-air.

Is 2A moving to another plot or just moving out of the way of 1N so it can be parked up ?
Must be a woman trying to park it...

Here's an interesting view of what 28.2 already looks like.

Click on "Fit all satellites on the map"

2A & 2D orbits overlap but at different altitudes.

n2Yo site has been like that for a few weeks. If it was moving at that speed @D would be at somewhere +27 degrees to 28.2. It is a site mistake it is not moving

Of course, even when it arrives on station, it could be weeks before anything starts transmitting from it.

Time to launch the parachutes to slow itself down from the blistering crawl that it's going.

(Now let someone post about the finer points of parachute use in space)

And the website has crashed! Not a good sign.

It may mean some more FTV channels, because 1N has more spot beams on the UK, less overspill - which upsets the Expats abroad, & one of the existing birds at 28.2 is reaching the end of it's life I believe.

I doubt very much it will be weeks, maybe a week but we should see some testing within a few days I guess. Don't forget that although the satellite's been moving across the sky for the last Month or so SES will have kept the contracted uplink providers in touch with the estimated 'in service date' and as so they've had the necessary time to install and/or re-align the Uplink KPA/TWTA Exciters, amplifiers and RF combiners to the required new uplink parameters as 1N's uplink frequencies won't be the same as those currently in use for 2A or 2B.

With a name like yours you must realise it's got an anchor Though I realise the winds kind of important as well
