TP 10964 H has just fired up in the last 15 minute. - Meaning there is a signal with some data on it but nothing to tune into yet. IE No Channel.

Might be something on there by Christmas.

There may of course be a very simple reason why there isnt a rush over to 1n.....maybe everyones skint and prefer the status quo

When i try scanning those two frequencies on my Sky HD box it scans for ages as if there is something there but is unable to lock on to it.

Well something has started moving on 1N (Frequency wise not the actual satellite) what will come of it? Stay tuned!

Maybe when it's time for blast off for Astra 2F all the testing could possibly be finished on 1N. The most tested Satellite in history. I hate saying this but is there a need at all for this satellite?”

There was a report in yesterday's Guardian that Channel 5+1 is launching in early December - presumably from Astra 1n?

What SR/FEC? My Humax getting no strength/quality with the settings at that frequency that it came with (22000 SR, auto FEC). There is a strength and quality on the frequency specified by polarice (but no channels, of course). Does seem very interesting.

Tried it here in Spain - best SS of all = 75% and quality 100% but no channels to watch

Well, what did you really expect? They probably already have schedules for the next few months. I doubt we'll see any real new channels until at the earliest December (with C5 +1). They do need to test their stuff, they couldn't necessarily test all of it when it was at its testing position (but I'm guessing they're mostly testing the footprint and how to get the optimal spot beam, as well as maybe uplink equipment).

Basse Normandie, France 100%signal 100% quality. Maybe all these tests are wide beam and Sky have taken all the transponders. Lets face it, Sky is a bigger customer to SES than Freesat. What a huge shame if this is the case.

I highly doubt it - they may well have one or two, but there's no way they would justify the (high) financial cost of buying all of them, just to make it that little bit harder for the competition. And it's not like SES would give them for a reduced price, as they need to pay for that satellite somehow - they know that Sky aren't exactly going to go to Eutelsat (Sky hate their policies, and many of their already-installed dishes have issues with certain frequencies on Eurobird 1, and they also have no plans to replace Eurobird 1 when it dies).

You might see Rupert Murdoch buying into SES? Isn't he worth $7.6 billion?

Muzer, I hope that you are right. It would be terrible if Sky pinched the spot beams just to spite Freesat

In case anyone's interested there are reports of a transponder active on 11053 H 22000

But there seem to be no channels on it (at least I cannot tune any)

Perhaps Sky want to leave Eurobird (they have three transponders leased) and move 100% to SES? Makes sense to buy all your space from one provider.

2 questions - What are the policies that Sky don't like with Eutelsat? And why are they not replacing Eurobird 1?

I tried tuning that transponder on my Sky box but it didn't find anything, it just said 'searching' for ages. I gave up in the end and cancelled the search which resulted in a total loss of listings and even recorded programmes in the planner temporarily disappeared. A reboot was required to get the box working properly.

Whatever is on that transponder my Sky+ HD box didn't seem to like it!

I was being serious!! Why write out two cheques for satellite space, when you can write out one?

Quantity discount too.

Exactly - I did say, did I not, that they'd get one or two?

Besides, these would be on the wide beam rather than the spot beam, presumably.

plymouthbloke1974: Not sure exactly which policies - I think it's something to do with the uptime guarantees. Someone else on the forum posted it quite a few months ago, I believe they were a reasonably respected person though I can't remember for sure.

Eurobird 1 was launched in 2001 on a 12-year mission, so it's due to die in about 2013 (though they're probably a bit pessimistic, so it may well last a little longer). However, they have not announced any plans to replace it - usually satellite companies (well, Astra at least, the only other one with which I'm familiar) announce plans many years in advance, and we've heard nothing from Eutelsat. I can only assume this means that they're either not going to replace it (too much competition from SES driving them out maybe, making it more profitable to concentrate at other positions?) or they just keep their plans very secret
