Birds Eye fish fingers

Bought a pack of these today, and noticed that the taste is very much different, these days. They seem spicier compared to Young's or other rival brands.

Anyone agree?

I tend to think supermarket own brand fishfingers are better than Bird Eye's nowadays. They ahve definetly gone downhill.

I only ever get the haddock ones.

Surprisingly the Birds Eye Value fish fingers are quite good. I buy them for fish finger sandwiches and they taste really nice and taste like they are supposed to I stopped buying the full price Birds Eye ones a while ago as I didn't think they were that good. The Young's one havent been as good lately either.

Only gripe I have sometimes with the value ones is they sometimes stick to the tray or greaseproof paper a bit but think that is more down to my trays and the greaseproof paper I have at the moment rather than the fish fingers themselves.

You sure that you are comparing like for like? Only, often these days the fish in fish fingers is not cod. It always was in the old days. Look at the packaging carefully - often a brand will have two varieties: cod and "other", with the packaging almost identical (so similar, in fact, I always wonder if the intent is to decieve?)

I havent noticed any difference in fish fingers. I buy either Birds Eye or Tesco's own brand, and they are both the same. I just buy whichever is on offer (Birds Eye were doing 12 fingers for the price of 10 last month)

I haven't bought any in ages but do they still do the battered fish fingers? I might be thinking of a different brand but I could've sworn that birds eye did tha bttered ones too. Years and years ago anyway...

Yes, you can still get battered ones - but i prefer the breadcrumb variety.

I used to love birds eye crispy batter fish fingers but I noticed that Tesco don't sell cod ones any more just pollock or something.

I used to buy Tesco's 10 cod fillet fish figers but stopped when the fish was black in a pack once. Never had that with Bird's Eye.

Which ones were they, cod, haddock or "white fish", usually pollock as mentioned above.

Fish produce is being changed slowly so that cod won't be used anymore because of the lack of mature stocks, which is why we are seeing more pollock etc.

Haddock has always been a tastier fish I think.

Anyone remember Birds Eye Battered Cod Balls? I'm going back a bit now though. Used to love coming home from school and having them for tea with chips and peas!

The fish fingers I bought were 100% cod...apparently.
