Just buy another when the new one comes out too. That's what Steve wants you to do.

the "ipad 3 in September" was just a rumour invented by Gruber back at the iPad 2 launch to see how much traction it would gain, he's since admitted he made it up but sadly it seems to have stuck around.

TL DR - There will be no iPad 3 this year.

Do you have any links where he actually admits he made it up?

Still, whether he was joking or not, it is apparently unlikely that there will be a third iPad this year anyway...

FWIW the Wall Street Journal is saying early 2012 but I think it's all speculation at this stage:

Hi, I've just got an iPad 2 didn't want to wait for the iPad 3 this does everything I need the only thing I could see as an improvement would be a retina screen. But
Ike the guy in the apple shop said they would not be able to retail them at £39. A 10 inch retina screen would be too expensive for that?

iPad 1: Living-room surfing, games, email, calendar.

iPad 2 does not justify an upgrade for me as I don't need the cameras and the iPad 1 is fine performance-wise. A non-wobbly shape would be nice but no biggie. I'll wait for an upgraded display, thankyouverymuch

A retina screen is a term without a real definition.

I suppose the best idea of it is a screen which appears perfect at the normal distance held from the eye. As such, a larger screen held the same distance would need to have the same pixels-per-inch, so if the retina display on a 3.5" iPhone is 960x640, a 10" iPad would need to be about 2560x1600 if held at a similar distance.

I can't see an iPad coming with a 2560x1600 or similar display for £39 any time in the forseeable future. Or even at £399 if that is what you meant.

The iPad 3 WILL come out next year - apple are guaranteed to do this along with the iphone5

Both will have a magic screen thats the best ever and so we all need it- or you will look a fool who's out of step... derrr

I would wait tbh- your laptop and phone will do the same things already and more + one has a keyboard actually on it..... can you believe that
