So after a fair share of falls in its long and tortured life, my old iPhone 3G's touchscreen has become partly unresponsive, but I'm not ready to let the poor thing die just yet. I know the bottom-right hand corner works so it isn't a problem with the motherboard, but as the top-left and bottom-left bits don't, I can't slide to power off or slide to unlock, pretty much bricking the phone for everyday use as well as stopping me finding out how much of it works.
Anyway, which components would I need to replace to fix an unresponsive touchscreen? I'm tempted to get something like this as I have quite a few dead pixels as well as cracks on the outer glass, but would replacing the outer 'touch screen digitizer' glass bit fix the problems with the touch screen as implied in the name? It seems like too insignificant a part and too simple a swap!
Oh, and please don't tell me it's better to take it to Apple for repairs unless you have a spare £200 with which to do so - I'm more than happy to repair it myself (having watched a few YouTube guides it doesn't look too complex), as long as I know I'm replacing the right bit in the first place!
