How revolting is it?

It's like eating seaweed. I had to spit it out and give it to someone else. It's like eating a real, alive fish?

I don't get the attraction either. Cold sticky rice. Urgh!

But each to their own I suppose.

Its not really alive. I wouldn't want to be eating anything that had been spat out though

You must've eaten a particularly bad batch of sushi then .....and sushi does have seaweed in it

It is the one cuisine I don't eat - not in any way, shape or form.

Is it actually considered a cuisine?

(I do like other Japanese dishes though!)

The problem is, people consume poorly made (or worse still, Tescos, M&S, Boots etc.) sushi, and straight away think that all sushi is like that.

Real sushi that is prepared properly, is absolutely delicious; Firm rice, moist seaweed and decent fish - with no overpowering smell or taste.

Fresh sushi is so much nicer than packaged sushi which tends to go hard / dry.

Mmm, so good with wasabi.

I prefere Sishimi which is just the marinated raw fish. I like sushi rice for cooking with other things but outside of Japan ( and a few restaurants) sushi always disappoints me.

I get veggie sushi so it has avocado, cucumber, radish...etc.in the middle. I love the omelette one and tofu bags! I've never tried real sushi before and I could imagine I would find that quite revolting just like u do tbh, lol! If you get made to go again, why not try the veggie option?

I think the problem is the fish in general.

I don't eat fish - I don't like it (and yes over the years I have tasted various different fish - I just do not like any of them - apart from deep fried cod )

Sushi doesn't have to contain fish. Sushi is the name for the rice.

Me too and now I've been put off cod as well because of a thread on here about a year ago.

Had vegetarian sushi for lunch today, as it happens. Very good, although it is basically just a very expensive way of eating rice.

How do you feel about just sake and wasabi peas, then?

Wasabi peas are absolutely amazing. They're my new addiction. The Marks & Spencer ones are great.

I like Sushi but I'm more of a Sishimi man personally.

It is one of those weird things. I'd never heard of them, then I happened to have them in a Japanese restaurant a couple of years back, and suddenly they were everywhere.
