Whilst watching TV someone made a reference to this quote which seems to sum up so much in regards with Amy.

My candle burns at both ends
It will not last the night;
But ah, my foes, and oh, my friends -
It gives a lovely light.

She gave us so much beauty in her songs and though sadly her death was not so surprising as it might have been it is a terrible loss. There will be those who can not, or refuse to look past the media portrayal of Amy's more negative aspects but on Saturday 23rd July 2011 we lost a very talented young woman who laid her soul bare in her songs and no doubt had more to give us. RIP Amy, may you finally find the happiness you craved in life. Gone far too soon.

Cross posting from the Appreciation thread in 'Showbiz':

I worked in a music venue Amy appeared at Frank era. I chatted to her backstage, she was amazingly enthusiastic, LOVED music and what she was doing. I've been a fan since I saw her on Jools Holland before the album was released (I think), and I'll cherish the memory of what she was like then

My favourite Amy song by a long shot is "You Sent Me Flying", everything about it is sublime... her voice, the lyrics, the story, the way it builds.

RIP Amy xx

I guess that we all expected 'Back To Black' to re-enter a lot of charts, but I was pretty surprised when I saw that 'Frank' re-entered the Billboard 200 in the low top 60 and actually reached its peak THIS WEEK

Did anyone watch the tribute documentary they did for Amy on ITV2 last night?

I haven't watched it yet but recorded it. There's another one on Q channel 364 Monday 1.30am and a tribute on MTV tomorrow 9.30pm

I have the MTV one recorded and a half hour set she did in New York back in 2007. I saw it years ago and really liked it.

I'll keep a look out for the Q channel one.

I always appreciated that she was talented, but I'm watching the ITV2 documentary now. They're showing bits of a live performance (Tears Dry On Their Own)...her singing is effortless.

I genuinely hoped that she would get proper help. I felt very sad when I saw the "Amy Winehouse found dead" thread on DS.

I loved Amy's performances. They were quite awkward in a way which is what i have always loved. She didn't connect with an audience. The audience connected with her. For that, i think that's different and amazing.

I love F*** Me Pumps

Anyone else think it would be appropriate to play it over the top of The Only Way Is Essex?

I watched her MTV tribute earlier and it's great. Doesn't really mention the negative things she went through.

Only found this thread there now - just been in the thread in showbiz about her death...

Anyway - I liked Amy when she first appeared on the scene, my dad liked her actually - her music was so different to the pop/dancy type of music that I was listening too but I've always loved jazz/soul music, and even from a young kid I had many different jazz/soul albums.

I kinda lost track of her music in the 'middle years' as I call them....I always knew she had problems with drugs and alcohol, but I really didn't realise the severity of it until that performance in June...since then I had really gotten back into Amy's music - I was soo sad at seeing her performance in Belgrade, really sad - I really hoped she could pick herself up from it, get the help and support she so desparately needed ....acutally angry that we've lost her...

Her music will live on through many different artists for years and years to come.... particularly her little protege Dionne...

Here's an article I found where Dionne Bromfield talks about her relationship with her god-mother Amy...

http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage...ot-talent.html (scroll down for Dionne's bit)

Such a talent, multi-platinum albums, 5 grammys but only 2 albums...huge success.... love you Amy!!! RIP xo

I have listened to Frank now. And it is really an amazing album. She really set the standard for herself with that album.

According to R5, she's set to have 7 singles in the charts, as well as a no 1 album. I don't put that down to fans, because they'd already have the music, but partly to people, who thought she was just famous for being in the tabloids, actually realizing what they were missing.

Very true - I think her album Frank wasn't mainstream at the time and not many people would have thought about buying it (although my dad admired her back then and so I had kinda started following her from then..though lost sight a bit when she was always drunk)

Many people wouldn't have been too interested in her because she was always in the tabloids for being drunk/off her head......I don't think people believed someone like that could make such fantastic music....

Now she's gone, people are listening to her music out of curiosity because of the status she has now been given as one of the greatest songwriter/singers of our generation....I think her music was fantastic and followed it on and off over the years, but I'll admit, since she had that performance in Belgrade, I started listening to her albums fully and so do appreciate and admire her music, I was very saddened by her death and can't believe she's gone. I never thought I'd be saddened by the death of Amy Winehouse, but yet I am...the more I read about her, her life, her passion for music, her troubles, the more I feel saddened.

I'm glad though that people are listening to her music...Amy was all about the music and would have never thought there would be as much interest in her music or that people would be placing her right up there with the likes of dusty springfield etc.....If only she knew before...

Her lyrics just get me everytime I listen to them....

The thing is with both Frank and Back to black, there are easily two of the most Honest records you could ever come across. She doesn't beat around the bush. She says it as it is in both records.

I think I could listen to You Sent Me Flying day after day and not get bored of it. The story telling and emotion in the song, is just so realistic and her live performances were beautiful.

Amy was a throwback to an age gone by, but at the same time she was so contemporary and her Live performances could be so brilliant, i actually felt she understood every word she sung.

I thought it was a good programme, but for me the best song on it was not even Amy's but, Carole King's- So Far Away which they played over some video clips.

Radio One say that 5 of Amy's songs have charted. It's obvious Back To Black will chart the highest.
