So we're (probably) just a few months away from the Iphone 5.... anyone waiting to buy one?

Do you think it will be able to improve on the current top smartphones such as the Samsung Galaxy S2?

I am in two minds. I am due an upgrade in Jan 2012 but i wont upgrade unless its a big leap from my iphone 4. I doubt this version will be an Iphone 5. More like an Iphone 4S

I'm in the same boat. My desire contract is up come january. I'm going to miss the next one and hold out for the following i think.

If it has a Xenon flash and 64GB i will ditch my iPhone 4 and iPod Classic no matter what the other features are.

my contract is up December 31st, hopefully it comes out close to then (although i think it's gonna be more likely October time)

If the iPhone 5 had come out in June, I would have skipped a generation.

But, as it's now likely to come out in September, only a few months before my contract ends, I probably will end up getting one (but not 'till the end of the year).

I just hope it is soon (and I can get one quickly) as my friends ipod touch looks like it might be dying soon and then she can have my 3Gs and I can get a shiny new phone.

I will buy it regardless of any new features, I just want a shiny new phone, a better battery would be good along with RDFI? (contactless payment).

RFID. More generally referred to as NFC when regarding this sort of thing.

I was due an upgrade from my 3GS iPhone last Christmas but held off as I thought the 5 was coming out in June. I'll certainly be upgrading when it comes out.

No

Yes

How do you go about unlocking it?

My warranty ran out recently, but I reckon with my Endsleigh insurance if my phone were to start switching off every so often (), they'd hand me a new one. My mate seems to do this regularly under his warranty so he can get a shiny new one and sell it. I'll sell the 4 and get the 5.

Have seen the rumours, looks decent.

Rumours just make it a catch up at the moment....Hopefully Jobs has something other than design up his sleeve....

i am just wondering when to sell my 4 now or wait a month

Well I can't fully decide whether it's to have a a 3.8" or a 4" screen.

I'm going with 3.8" in that the small 3.5" iPhone 4 was a master-stroke by Apple, helping promote their iPad. Large smartphones no doubt affects tablet sales.

I cant see it being better (spec wise) than the android phones currently available.

As for NFC, its a useless feature at the moment. Only McDonalds and Starbucks use it in the UK. So hardly worth it. It will be a while yet before it is commonly used, and a feature worth having.

It will be a good phone non the less. Who knows you may even be able to make phone calls with your left hand.

Chipped sims will be used to extend the usage of NFC anyway so no one will need a specific NFC phone to use the facilities.

The Samsung Super Amoled Plus would be too expensive to use yet I'm certain they will promote at least one must have feature.
This time its got to be software related because I just can't think of anything else.

And I doubt Mirasol is ready to help Apple expand its range so I'm very much betting that the 3GS will be £200 with the iPhone 4 being £300 to £350.

Make hay whilst the sun still shines has to be the order of the day.

Apples idea of 'must have' and the rest of the worlds tend to differ. With the iphone4 it was facetime - a totally usless feature that only fanboys think is great. This time it will more than likely be the 'iCloud'...another feature that is usless in the way apple have implemented it. Whats the point of having cloud computing, if you can only use it over wireless

I think of the Retina screen as being a fairly bit ridiculous yet people want it.

I'm a minuscule part of 'the rest of the world'.

Apparently its a notification bar you can drag down with a finger and social network apps integration which veteran Android users are very familiar with. That Steve Jobs is a character aye.

My 3 1/2 year old daughter loves facetime as it means she can see her grandmother and grandfather whilst she's talking to them.
