HD TV with integrated DVD recorder?

Hi,

This may be a stupid question but does anyone know if there are any TV's available that have a built in DVD recorder - I have searched but all I can find are TV's with integrated DVD player, not recorder.

Has technology come this far yet?

There are TVs out now that let you record to a USB device.

It's not a question of 'technology', it's a question of a viable product - combined TV/DVD players don't sell particularly well, and a recording one would be an even poorer seller.

DVD recorders have almost gone the way of VCR's, PVR's are by far the preferred recorder these days - and while there have been a small number of TV/PVR combi's they have all flopped.

Basically, it's never a good idea to 'put all your eggs in one basket'.

You could argue that the writing is on the wall for any kind of user-side recording. The Cloud and streaming services are the future.

I think you're dreaming

Such methods are FAR more expensive, and will only be available in limited areas anyway.

Maybe if you live in a Virgin or BT Infinity area, for the rest of us that is probably still many years away.

Plus cost is a factor too. Pay a one off charge for the purchase of a Freeview or Freesat PVR and record what you want, play it back when you want. Store all your stuff on a cloud service and you have the monthly costs of the cloud service, as well as the cost of your broadband and any upload/download limits to factor in.

Added to that I cannot exactly see the likes of my mother getting on well with such systems, she struggles to understand Iplayer never mind anything more complex. Although YouView may well help if it works as planned, fetching catchup programmes via the EPG in a simple way.
