The Zayn Malik Appreciation Thread
I think he deserves one. His vocals have improved a lot since X Factor. For those asking, he is a British Pakistani. A mini-biography from Wikipedia:
Zayn Malik grew up in Bradford. He was very confident as a kid and sang in the school choir. He was always the "loud" one in his house. Zayn is the only boy and has 3 sisters: Doniya (19), Waliyha (10) and Safaa (8). Zayn likes being the only boy as he has his own room and a big TV. He says he was popular at school and he passed all 11 GCSE's. Zayn loves acting and had been acting for a while. Zayn and Louis both liked the idea of acting and thought about being Drama Teachers. Zayn then started singing and was going to audition for X Factor in 2009 but was too scared and came back in 2010 and auditioned. If anyone can add more detail to that please do so. |

It's just a bit early for this thread as solo work has not been confirmed.
The acting thing might be a good thing to take up though.....and music too/ I'd love him to start his career with a 'cry me a river' style track. Well produced, moody but not dull. |

Surely this thread deserves a bump and some activity in light of news from the Zayn Malik camp over the last few days.
So he's coloured his hair all colours of the rainbow. Sat on the Frow at some fashionshows with some big names. Got a nose ring Had some demos leaked fallen out with Naughtyboy big time and publicly slayed him on Twitter. He's confirmed that Ziam still lives with his retweet and reply to Liam on twitter (complete with a smilely face and an 'X'.) He's got a new manager (Iggy Izalea and Rito Ora's), left Simon Cowell's umbrella, moved to RCA and signed a record deal. He's been in the studio with producers including one that worked with Frank Ocean Declared that he will now make #RealMusic and finally He got a new tattoo. What do people think of it all? I hope I covered it all. |

I'm actually here for solo Zayn. One Direction were actually really good for a boyband but still too "boyband" for my taste. Zayn has an amazing voice and image though and I really hope he proves his doubters wrong by carving out a successful solo career. If he's working with Frank Ocean's producer, then I expect great things music-wise. For members of pop bands who are trying to pull of a successful solo career, image is key. He doesn't want to drift too far away from the 1D demographic but some progression is needed. Luckily for Zayn, 1D were far from the cliché boyband mould and have recently had some mature output ('Night Changes', 'Story of My Life'). At the end of the day, only him and Harry from the group have potential to be huge post-1D so I wouldn't be surprised if he takes off solo.

It's interesting to me because apart from Louis he was the one that expressed more discomfort about being solo and highlighted the benefits of being with the boys and having that support. Yet he's the first to go solo. Also I think it would be fair to say that he did not have as much stage presence, energy and charisma on stage and for interviews as the other four did . So he will have to get himself into gear for that. I hope he doesnt go too offkey with his music and that it is still relatively relateable/commercial/ radio friendly. With RCA, they may insist on this. |

So here for Zayn's solo efforts. It's been clear for a while that he wasn't really here for 1D's musical direction, so I'd be interested to hear what his perspective is as an artist (as difficult as that may be to do that at such a big label).
I've always found this stage presence thing to be a bit of a tiresome debate. There are so many different ways of communicating presence. Zayn may not have been as energetic and constantly skipping around onstage as his band-mates but a major reason for that was that he was carrying relatively difficult vocals and another is that he was just a different kind of performer. I'm interested to see how he'll do when he's singing about music he's excited/passionate about and that hopefully allows him to stretch his vocals in more interesting ways. And I suppose it helps that he's pretty .

And I suppose it helps that he's pretty .But sometimes I felt he was quite introverted when singing on tour. Closing his eyes. Turning his back to the audience. Acting as if he was too cool for school. Maybe that was more a reflection of him being fed up with the whole thing. I dont think its about difficult vocal, because if anything I think that would make it more likely for him to use that to be expressive in facial expressaion or hand and body gestures. And also having said the above I find that Zayn was better when it came to TV performances. Then he made an effort to be a bit more expressive, so I think he does have it in him. |

The vacuous Dan Wooton. I don't believe anything he says.
Maybe Zayn will tweet one of his narky tweets to dispel the rumours. |

Zayn will be on Graham Norton next Friday and the video for his new single 'Pillow Talk' will air on MTV earlier in the day.
Anyone excited or does no one care on here anymore? Has he burnt his bridges with us? |

Burnt Bridges? We're not 12 years old lol. Very much looking forward to seeing him and hearing the track. And he looks so damn fine in the picture released for the single.
Anyway I'm still interested in solo Zayn Malik. Obviously he's cancelled his single release because of Rihanna but I wonder if she was a threat after all. |

I guess I'm jumpin to conclusions. So far he has cancelled Graham Norton. It was my presumption this was leading to a single release date change (as opposed to a cancellation).
My bad. |
