Flanimals (Ricky Gervias) and Whizzer & Chips
Looking through a copy of the Ricky Gervais book Flanimals, it occurred to me that Whizzer And Chips did the same thing in the 70's
IIRC, Whizzer And Chips had a full page portrait of wierd creatures, and a description of lifestyle, habits etc. The artwork was EXACTLY the same as Flanimals. The same artist maybe ? Does anyone else remember this ? AFAIK, it was Whizzer And Chips. It might have been a different comic. |

Monster Fun had Martha's Monster Make-Up, in which a young girl had a jar of cream that, when applied, temporarily made her, or anyone or anything else, look monstrous. They also included a strip in which two men regularly went on exploring trips to hunt down strange beasts.
I'm fairly sure they also regularly featured the full-page pictures of strange imaginary beings, that the OP alludes too. |

If those links aren't enough, you could ask that on the Comics UK forum: www.comicsuk.co.uk/forum

It was actually Whoopee! (and before that, Shiver & Shake) and the artist was the great Ken Reid, who died in February 1987 (making his involvment unlikely).
