I make a nice pasta alla puttanesca from mostly tin stuff.

Uses a can of anchovies, a jar of olives, a can of plum tomatoes, some dried chilli flakes, some spaghetti, some dried oregano so yeah it all comes from the storecupbboard but it's very good.

It does use garlic but you can even use garlic granules in it.

Do you think there is anything wrong with the tinned food you have ?

What you planned sounds fine. Just check if veggies are pre-cooked then obviously adjust when you add them to the dish appropriately.

Actually, this is probably your chance for a 70s meal theme night. If you could get a Vesta dried meal, you will get an accurate representation of what students used to eat back in the pre-microwavonic era when all you had to cook on was a single gas ring or electric hob.

One of my favourite dishes of comfort food is something my dad made up when we were kids, very simple, I've got my husband into it now.

Tin oxtail soup, tin Heinz beans, good dash of Worcestershire sauce or HP, voila. Absolutely delish.

I remember once, years ago, discovering I had no fresh food in the house so I had a Fray Bentos pie, tinned spuds and marrowfat peas. After that experience I always make damned sure i'm not in that position.

Our kitchen is so small we don't even have a "tin" cupboard.

We may have a few tins of beans and some soup lurking about but other than that there is no tinned goods at all..

I don't think i have ever eaten a meal entirely from tins. I always have tins of tomatos, soup, beans, a couple of cooking sauces and thats about it.

Sounds like hell

Everything that comes in a can is precooked. Some foods are sealed raw into the can then cooked and some are cooked then sealed into sterilised cans.

I used to have an emergency quick meal,
something that i always had in that could be cooked in minutes.
Tin of Stewing steak in Gravy, tin of new potatoes, peas if i wanted to treat myself,he he.
Not the best meal but good enough if you
have nothing in that can be cooked quickly and your in a rush to go out early.

I used to live off that when I first left home. But I always added an oxo cube to the tinned steak

OHH never thought of that,thats my problem when it comes to cooking,no imagination,

I add oxos to anything with meat in it. I love to add one to tinned Irish stew

Heinz Big Soup tastes a lot better when you're camping for some reason.

You can get chicken in a tin in the US. A whole chicken!Looks bloody disgusting though.

Often is the answer - when we are at the caravan for a weekend we have no refrigeration so dine on tinned and packet foods. Not too bad depending obviously on what we have in stock.

It did still have the bones. It was just a whole cooked chicken in a can with lots of jelly. You used to remove the jelly and warm the chicken in the oven. You used to get them in Xmas hampers when I was little.
