Formula One FTA Solution?!
Having seen the news today that as of next year Sky Sports is the only place to watch half the races live I'm trying to find a sneaky solution as I'm not prepared to pay for Sky Sports.
So, I'm thinking that I could setup a secondary receiver and dish/lnb to pick up F1 fta from another european broadcaster. My first idea was RTL in Germany at 19.2. Am I right in assuming that this is a digital broadcast? Does anyone have a better suggestion of station to go for? |

Just what I was thinking!
I already had a zone 2 big sky dish with quad lnb, thinking of mounting a second lnb for 19.2, seen a few home made mounts so willing to try anything! |

Would a portable dish be suitable to pick up 19.2?

If you subscribe to Tring for the footy then I think that it's on there.

RTL is in digital from 19 east and 13 east, but 19 east is the better option, unfortunately RTL is only available free to air in SD, not HD TF1 HD is available free to air from 9 east but may or may not still be free to air by next year, another thing to remember about TF! is that they only show the race live, no practice or qualifying |

Yes, but anything smaller than 40cm may have picture break up in the rain.

Looks like I too will be going down the foreign fta/ftv route for f1 next year
there is a list of national f1 broadcasters here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...e_broadcasters are RTL and TF1 the only european carrieres that can be picked up fta? who covers the races in Ireland, Denamrk and the Netherlands? iirc prior to this years hd coverage, there was a fta world feed that transmitted an upscaled broadcast that was used by cinemas - anyone know which satellite this was broadcasted from? |

I am not sure if I count as a beggar if i pay my licence fee. I object to pay channels being allowed to outbid FTA channels and then hold the viewers to ransom. It is just away for the owners of the pay channel to line their pockets at the expense of the public.
The BBC have ended their present contract two years early, The new agreement runs until 2018. The Director of BBC sport is a woman. I wonder if this was a factor, as motor sport is predominantly male. RTL had quite a bit of pre qualifying coverage this morning. Radio 5 Live were covering something else at that time. |

Is TV3 (Catalonia) FTA? I guess it is because it says 'clear' (the same as RTL does) on kingofsat, does anyone know for sure?
Can't find details for TV3 HD anywhere. TV3 HD show every session live, while the SD version just show FP3, qualifying and race live. |

TV3 terrestrial in Spain shows all the sports you are looking at listings wise. TV3 CAT does not (or very rarely) show any kind of sport, let alone Formula 1 or any other top sport, it is sort of the 'international' version of TV3, different version Listen to the people who know, RTL and TF1 are currently the only places where ALL the Formula 1 races will be shown free to air from next year on satellite Tv |

I was meaning that we as 'beggars' are looking for the scraps of free to air Formula 1 in satellite TV land, and scraps they are as most of Europe too is encrypted for top sports, only RTL and TF1 currently free to air places for all Formula 1 races from next year. I totally agree with what your post says. |

So what are the HD options then?
19.2E plus one of these http://www.sateuropa.co.uk/product_o...id=10&subcat=8 and then £50 yearly sub? 13E plus fransat box, where can these be bought cheaply? (Yes I have googled it, but not convinced the sites don't have a premium on them) Any others? I don't mind paying some money for a ftv option, but at most it'd have to be £50 a year. |
