I will be going to Nandos for the first time in my life with some people with work on sunday!.... I heard something about the chicken being good?.... But I also heard its a Posh Mcdonalds?,,, Anyone know the myths from the facts?

They do chicken in varying levels of spicy / hot sauces. It's quite nice, but it's a chain-type restaurant (hence the McDonalds comparison) so it's hardly fine dining. Typical mass-market type food place really. My daughter (who used to claim to hate chicken) practically lives off Nando's.

Nandos is ok ...the chicken is very nice. they dont have waiters to take orders. you have to do the ordering yourself at the counter. Order your food and give your table number. If you order the cola drink its buy one and top ups are free you just help yourself.

Their food is pretty reasonable and I rather like the fact you pay before hand, as you can just clear off when you have finished eating and not try to grab a waiter/waitress attention to sort out the bill

But I do think their portions are a bit stingy.

You could always have a look at their web site.

http://www.nandos.co.uk/contact-us

have a read of the FAQs - some info about chicken welfare if you're interested.

I didn't know chickens could claim benefits......

not a posh anything. I guess it would do if you want the next rung up from Mcdonalds. Not somewhere to take someone to impress them! On a similar level to Pizza Hut. v popular though.

I agree with the Pizza Hut comparison. It's somewhere to go before / after cinema or bowling or some such "retail park" type activity night, the sort of thing that most people do in "generic England" on a "generic" weekend.

You could be in any big town in this country and do exactly the same thing. The communists would love it.

Well there is Nando's, Pizza Hut, Pizza Express, Frankie & Benny's. McDonalds, Burger King, Subway, Domino's, Wimpy, La Tasca, KFC, Bella Italia. If by 'do the same thing' you mean eat in a restaurant - you are 100% correct,

be sure to use their sauces with the chicken, really adds to the flavor

I've never been inside a Nando's but I have used their sauces and marinades once or twice. Trouble is, it's not hot enough for me and I end up adding chillis or the sweet chilli marinade from Aldi.

I would only see it as a place to go with my kids. Wouldn't expect a 'grown up' meal there. If I am out with other adults I want waitress service and less conveyor belt food.

every time i`ve been to nando`s we`ve had a bowl of olives (free) while we were waiting.

Agreed.

For me it depends what I am doing and how long I want to spend eating. Nandos is perfect for Beer->football->Nandos->Beer or Nandos->cinema . Less so for a romantic meal with the Mrs.

But this thread leads me to a more serious issue. There isn't a Nandos in Swindon. Grrr.

Last time I went to a communist country, they prefered KFC and Dominos pizza

Love Nando's but you need to order side orders or you'll still be starving when you leave. Also like the fact that payment is sorted out upfront as I like to bugger off as soon as I've finished eating.

i always associate Nandos with Liverpool for some reason. Think it because every time im there, me and my mates always say were going to go, but end up staying in the Swan pub!!

Nandos is pretty low standard, would rather go to KFC as it's cheaper and tastier.

Keep meaning to give Nandos a try.
Ive been told to expect to wait at least 30
-40 min for your meal.
that's what puts me off, just want a quick meal and out.
I do look at Nandos as fast food not a restaurant.45 min is a bit long for a quick meal.

I really like Nando's for a meal out with the family. I'd say it's good value as I am always absolutely stuffed at the end and it's not too dear.

I have to diagree about the desserts - the white chocolate and raspberry cheesecake is amazing. I look forward to having it every time I go.

I've always found them very quick with the service - I last went on Mothers day and we were served within about 10 mins, I'd say the longest we'e waited is about 20 minutes.
