Anyone else noticed this when trying to buy a own brand cheesecake in the main supermarkets lately? They used to have their own brand and maybe one more from Ross. Now, you can only buy frozen cheesecakes made by Conditorei Coppenrath & Wiese. And they're almost, if not, double the price that the supermarket ones used to be.
Why is that? Can't be a trademark or patent thing because other companies could claim prior art. Only thing I can think of is that the company has done an exclusivity deal with all the supermarkets to only stock that brand. Still seems odd thought that other brands and the supermarket own brands have all gone, it'd be like say Nescafe being the only coffee available with every other brand and the own brands removed from the shelves. Thinking of it that way, it could be quite a dangerous precedent for competition.
Anyone else notice this, or better yet - know a reason for it? I miss Morrisons own brand mandarin cheesecakes and they don't do them in the cake shop section of the supermarket.
