ITV2 +1 changes and maybe Challenge
Ray Cathode
01-08-2011
Tomorrow morning at 6am, ITV2 +1 would normally timeshare with and be replaced by CITV, except in Wales where it timeshares with Challenge.

According to the Freeview EPG ITV2 +1 will continue alongside CITV probably on the new 11th Mux A / SDN vacant stream. In Wales Challenge may well continue alongside ITV2 +1. So the first we'll know about both these events, if they occur, will be at 6am. All reports welcome especially from Wales.

If that all happens, that leaves a vacant 6pm-6am slot everywhere except Wales, so maybe a placeholder or two will appear during the day usually at midday.

In Wales both ITV2 +1 and Challenge may go 24/7.but while E4 is on Mux A there is no room for CITV, unless it replaces Challenge.

As they are likely to be on Mux A, we might also see the three new text channels appear, Vision, Stream and Connect.

This is in addition to the new Mux C / Arq A service Really going live at 10am by taking over Dave ja vu capacity.

A busy Freeview day coming up!

I can confirm that we have ITV2+1, CITV and Challenge all broadcasting at the same time - it appears that we now have the 11th stream on Mux A/SDN.

Just looked at the transport stream on Mux A in London and there are indeed 11 video streams running simultaneously with 500kbps of null packets.

A report from Wales would be nice.

Possible channels to be timesharing with CITV from 6pm to 6am:
Yesterday +1
Big Deal 2 - perhaps a TView return?
- these channels are likely to get LCN 35 under the associated channels rule

XTSY from 11pm/12am? - if so it's certain it would get LCN 194

CNN is unlikely to relaunch - especially as the Ofcom licence has been removed

Here in Wales, ITV2+1 and Challenge are both broadcasting.

So what will happen at 7pm? Will Challenge go 24/7 or have ITV got something else planned for Wales? I bet the first.

Agree, I'd be very surprised if Challenge didn't go 24/7 now in Wales. But this is ITV and i'm sure they would want to retain this slot for themselves. If they are going to use it, the likely next channel from them is ITV3+1.

If Challenge goes 24/7 it removes the part time slot in Wales and I'm sure a UK wide channel is more valuable than the previous mishmash.

But ITV3 +1 has got no prospect of ever going 24/7 unless ITV2 +1 was an experiment in part time +1 channels, and I doubt that ITV would have been able to think that one up. Besides that there is no new licence for ITV3 +1.

Maybe they were planning something else with ITV Preview 1 on LCN35. I think most likely is something teleshopping like Rocks & Co 2 or Big Deal 2 from 6pm-11pm and then the usual overnight fare. They don't use much bitrate.

I've got those after another retune.

I'm not overly bothered about the channel appearing, but was just led to believe it would, which seems to be incorrect info.
