I'm here, Eth
![]() I hardly use my TV service these days - though I did set the air accident series on (?) Discovery to record and it went on and on recording all the repeats until the hard drive nearly overflowed Very occasionally I use catch-up but I have iPlayer on a Technika Smartbox PVR (TT catch-up handles the recordings better but doesn't have as many programmes available).Broadband and phone have been trouble-free - BB not the fastest cos I'm not fibred-up yet (SamKnows says 1st September for my exchange), am looking forward to developments on that front - as on the Canvas front, but we'd better not hold our breath. Incidentally, if anyone with non-PVR TalkTalk TV has wanted the PVR (hard disk recorder) but been unable to get one from TalkTalk because they're not supplying then any more, I just bought a second-hand one from eBay for a friend and it's working fine. Well that's my rambly chit-chat, where's yours, Eth? parthena

There has been little activity in this forum for a while.
I have a non-PVR TalkTalk STB. I did try the PVR version, but I found it too noisy. One of the most distinguishing (and best) features of TalkTalk TV is V:M:X. It has the ability to select music tracks on demand (with V:M:X Central) and then create playlists. There is also the ability to watch music videos of a particular genre (eg. V:M:X Pop, V:M:X Easy, V:M:X Dance, V:M:X Retro). V:M:X is part of the, ‘Music Mix’ pack. I pay £6.13 per month for this. Annoyingly, last month, I received an email from TalkTalk advising me that, ‘Due to lack of customer demand’, Music Mix (including V:M:X) will no longer be available from 15th August. I find this news very disappointing. I have subscribed to V:M:X since the days of Homechoice and really like it. |

That's sad, Digichoice!
Before I finished reading your post I was thinking I'd tell my friend about it, him being a heavy metal fan I'd never noticed it.It's like Sainsbury's discontinuing the special products that I like because they're a bit "niche". They'll only drive me to Waitrose! parthena |

Blimey..life..!
![]() Sorry to hear that that VMX is going - I did a weekend subscription a year or so ago & couldn't believe he amount of niche stuff that was on there.. We've actually increased our subscription to add the Kids Mix for The Boy who now insistes that he is Diego from Nick Jr at every opportunity.. ..hmm.. Oh well, nice to hear it's not just us who are still on the end of the phone line, wonder when (if?) YouView will ever become reality or whether we'll be writing these messages again this time next year..? |

I think TalkTalk deliberately killed off the Music Mix - I stopped subscribing when they stopped adding new stuff.
I really do not know what's going on with TalkTalk any more. They're so un-committed to everything that I can't log in to My Account on the website, and they haven't taken any payment from me in months! It's making me long for the Homechoice days when there was a massive and diverse content library of factual and non-factual programming, much of it British. Loads of Red Dward, French & Saunders, Nighty Night etc on-demand. When Tiscali came on the scene they added glitzier stuff like Sky One and some American series and we had the best of both worlds but it's been in slow decline for a long time. So sad. |

Oh and while I'm reminiscing about Homechoice, has anyone noticed that in the Red Bull TV thing they show at Cineworld the pair of guys on the sofa are using an old Homechoice remote? The gigantic, heavy aluminium one that came with the tiny STB which had a habit of cooking itself to death every 6 months or so...

TTTV on it's way out
Hello.
I recently decided to cancel my TT accounts, partly due to not making much use of the PVR, partly due to poor customer service and partly due to getting BT fibre in our area. During discussions with their cancellations team about these reasons, they said that TTTV was basically being wound-down due to an upcoming replacement platform. They also mentioned the intention to roll-out their own fibre offering. So, things might improve for TTTV customers who have the patience to wait. Needless to say, it would have been nice if they could have communicated this more openly to their customers. |

TalkTalk is a partner in YouView so I doubt anything will happen with TTTV til that launches.

Wow! the thread lives! The block that I live in is having the arials updated and a dish fitted so I finally have a choice... Been here since the Homechoice days but the lack of new channels or HD is really annoying.

It is frustrating, being in a sort of limbo whilst all the various interested parties finally work out what YouView is actually going to be.
I have high hopes for it, not least because Sky & Virgin are, sadly, not an option & that's why (originally) Tiscali TV was such an ideal 'solution' for us. Watching TalkTalk TV limp along is sad when one considers what it used to be but at least it's still there & we are grateful for the ability to watch Discovery, Nat Geo & the other channels not available on Freeview, as well as the excellent catch up & on-demand stuff which was always a TTTV strong point. Fingers crossed, YouView will take what was (is) an excellent service & move it on to become what TTTV should have been.. |

hello all
did'nt think anyone still had the TTTV except from me but think that will soon be changing as i contacted them the other day to complain of channels being taken off and prices stay the same was met with the most arrogant customer care attendant or whatever you call them to be told of their big new venture which i assume is YOUVIEW and was told either cancel TTTV or wait on it being transferd to this after all this time with homechoice, tiscali, talktalk seriously considering my options concerning TTTV sad after all the great channels and OD content you got during the HC and TISCALI days |

They (HC, Tiscali) weren't able to roll out the service to a big enough market, such a shame. No idea what non-Freeview channels will be available on YouView, it may be that NatGeog, AnimalPlanet (etc) fans have to get Sky or go without

I'm another one finally biting the bullet and getting out. Asked from my MAC code this morning. TalkTalk don't look to be wanting to do anything with the service, so I'm thinking the number of non-Freeview channels will just wind down as content contracts expire until it ends up like BT Vision. As a result I've now wired up a FreeSat HD box and am heading off to O2 for my broadband. iPlayer will make up for the lack of catchup services. I'll miss the 4OD on demand, but hopefully that will come eventually.
Such a shame that this hasn't lived up to its potential since Tiscali got involved. Under HomeChoice it was fantastic, but it's now fallen too far behind other peoples' offerings. HD, red button, ADSL2+ etc. should have been made available two years ago. Sadly if it were still HomeChoice I suspect all of them would have been. |

I finally bit the bullet too this month (after threatening to leave a few times this yr). Having had homechoice since 2002, i kept the service last year even though i rarely used the actual talktalk tv (freeview even looks better) but their price rises with channel decreases just took the biscuit. I was paying 23 pounds for internet and tv with a separate linerental to BT.
As i've moved house and have signed up to virginmedia (for which the tivo i must say is much better than talktalks tv offering) I have cancelled the tv part but have kept the internet and now linerental with talk talk. I was offered on the phone both services for 16 pounds....the guy told me the internet was "exactly the same as what i'm getting now" i asked hima few times if he was sure about that as i'm on a legacy tiscali/homechoice internet contract. He said definitely. I rang back last week as i hadn't heard anything, apparently its the crappy "essentials" version of the internet. I must say i've never had a problem with the internet service in the 9 years i've had it. Though the customer service these days is AWFUL. They just dont care and they don't do what they say. I still haven't received the envelope to send the tv box back. its been nearly a month! (and i've chased them up on it!) Also, don't rely on customer services telling you about "great new tv services in the pipeline" or words to that effect. Its all rubbish, and it doesn't happen. They were feeding me that stuff over a year ago about youview, there'll be no advantage when that comes!! |

We who stick with TalkTalk must just wait to see what YouView throws up - and wait... and wait...

Back when homechoice was starting (when it was mainly just in london) the main draw to the service was 4Mbit internet (which not a lot of others were offering at the time), and a tv through phoneline service which offered ondemand (again, which nobody was offering at the time)....the problem is, apart from speed increases to 8mbit, the service hasn't really developed at all since those days. Sure, theres a pvr service now, but its not particularly great. They just didn't keep modernising and upgrading the service, when their competitiors have raised their game massively.
Whats the unique selling point of talktalk tv now? The only possible avenue I can see is for those who are unable/not allowed to put a dish up or who aren't in a cabled area, but then there is always bt vision too. I am sad to leave the tv service, but it really doesn't provide any benefits anymore. even the ondemand service is rubbish. |

Can't see it at the end of 2011. The new TalkTalk TV depends on the YouView platform, and YouView isn't due to launch until next Spring at the earliest.

Very occasionally I use catch-up but I have iPlayer on a Technika Smartbox PVR (TT catch-up handles the recordings better but doesn't have as many programmes available).
