Arianespace will try again tonight to get Astra 1N into the air.

Stuff that - cheaper to go and find a cafe somewhere with free access

Was stuck with wife and kids. Visited The Big Sheep, which has a cafe with wi-fi but wife wouldn't let me, chalet was mouldy loaads of mildew, am happy to be gone with the cost of it all. 600 quid for a week.

Since these threads recently seem to have turned into ones summarising the TV you can get on holiday:

I was in Croatia on the island of Lopud near Dubrovnik, and with my indoor aerial, I could receive... absolutely nothing, analogue UHF/VHF, or DVB-T UHF. The guesthouse had no TV system for me to check.

I am now in Mostar in Bosnia & Herzegovina. The hotel (Villa Fortuna) has a good TV system with quite a few English channels (CNN, lots of Discovery channels, Nat Geo, and Cartoon Network IIRC), but my brother is currently watching Nat Geo so I won't yank the aerial out and check all the channels with my laptop. Instead, I'll list the (surprisingly many) channels I could receive at a watchable quality with my indoor aerial at the window:

R12 - BHT 1
E7 - FTV
E12 - BHT 1
21 - OBN
23 - FTV
26 - BHT 1
28 - mreza RTM
30 - mreza RTM
51 - mreza HTV
57 - Pink BH
60 - HTV Mostar


I notice a lot of duplication, and channels being simulcasted on UHF and VHF, all in PAL colour. I was using the europe-east profile in mplayer, I assume that's the correct one to use here - if not, post before tomorrow and I'll do more scans with a different one.


BHT 1 is the national public network, FTV seems to be the big regional public one, OBN, the mreza channels and Pink BH are the big commercial ones (though I don't know which are national and which are regional), and HTV Mostar was the very, very local one that isn't even really broadcasting at the moment (just showing pictures and music and contact details).


No DTT whatsoever, despite very good analogue pictures - a bit of browsing tells me there won't be any until at least Spring 2012.

If theres any delay they always hold at T-7 mins. Should there be a hold at less than T-7 mins they have to reset to 7.00 as this is when what they call the "synchronised sequence" starts This is basically the ground equipment starts to hand over control to the rocket computers

There is a "launch window" in which both the satellites can be placed into the correct orbits. Tonights is a long one - over an hour so we have plenty of time for the weather to clear yet.

Incidently as they have 2 big birds on board Arianespace are using the ECA configuration of the rocket and a long fairing. The ECA is the heavylift workhorse and can be identified as it has the yellow arms connected to the rocket that pull away 5 seconds before launch. The lighter stuff (eg the transfer vehicles that go the the Space Station) use the ES configuration and dont need the tanks topping up until the last seconds

Haha I'll be going to Germany in a week or two and I'll also be staying a night in Luxembourg so I will report on the TV in the various hotels here in these threads Any CNBC in the hotel in Croatia? Is the internet free?
