Katy Perry has broken a US Pop Songs chart record.

The singer has become the first artist in 19 years to have five number one Pop Song chart entries from one album.

Perry has managed to top the chart with five tracks from her second studio album Teenage Dream.

The number ones include her singles 'California Gurls', Teenage Dream', 'Firework', 'E.T.' and 'Last Friday Night'.

The tracks also fill five positions in the top six highest-ever weekly spins on US pop radio, with 'Last Friday Night' becoming the most played this week with 12,468 plays, reports Billboard.

'Last Friday Night' is Perry's seventh Pop Songs chart topper overall, having previously scored high with 'Hot N Cold' and 'Waking Up In Vegas'.

Meanwhile, Perry has matched Lady GaGa's record of six consecutive number ones on the US Pop Songs chart, while Rihanna continues to retain the overall number of chart-topping entries with eight.

Perry is yet to top the US Hot 100 with 'Last Friday Night', which currently sits at number two.

If the 26-year-old manages to gain the fifth Hot 100 number one from Teenage Dream, she will match a record set by Michael Jackson's Bad album back in 1988.

Another brilliant achievement.

Er - becoming the first person to do something in nineteen years (crucial phrase in italics) isn't the same thing as breaking a record, surely? The record-holder is still whoever it was nineteen years ago.

But! Nonetheless. Cool.

Looks like she .will make #1 in official chart.
Doubtful. She's #3 on iTunes (with a big gap behind #1 and #2) and her airplay isn't enough.

She's supposed to be releasing a remix to the song on iTunes but it's yet to appear. And there's no promo lined up either. You'd think she'd be desperate to claim this "five #1's from one album' record.

I think she's too busy touring at the moment.

I agree. Why don't they release a remix pronto! It's sooo frustrating as it's currently at #2 on the Hot 100. So near as well!!!!!!!

Ach I'll put my hands up and say I like Katy Perry. I think her songs are good. She's harmless - I don't get all the hate for her.

I think she's more of a singles artist, but Teenage Dream has done double platinum in the UK. Not sure about her US album sales, although they're probably not that high considering the success of all 5 singles.

Apparently Last Friday Night just broke E.T’s record as most played song in 1 week. Shes slaying her own records!!

Thanks. I'm sure Last Friday night will also sell over three million copies adding to her record.

Last Friday Night will probably end up selling around four million as well. It's weird how the second single has been outsold by the third, fourth and probably fifth ones.

Her album sales in the US are about 1.4 million, btw. Pretty poor indeed.

There was a lot of love for Firework at the time. Mainly because it was seen as an anthem following the sad teen deaths who were bullied for being gay.

I think that's fair album sales really. Pop albums rarely sell loads. Gaga's an exception because she's takes Pop to another place. Plus the album has sold a good 5 million worldwide.

5 million worldwide is totally acceptable.

Anyway Katy is a singles artist.

Same here!
I like both her albums so far, and I'm not really into pop.

For a singles artist, 5 million is pretty good for a pop album these days.

She'll be raking in the money from her tour anyway, so that'll keep her going. I'll be interested in what direction she takes for Album 3...
