I don't. (And I'm including any 'buzz' it might make. It's been years since 'buzz' was much help to BB.)

Besides, there are plenty of other possible reasons, such as:

BB moved from C4 to C5, a less-watched channel known for different types of show.
It followed right after CBB, which in hindsight was a bad idea.
A lot of people may not know it's on.
It's usually on at 10 rather than 9.
It sometimes starts at odd times rather than at the hour or even half hour.
It's on in the autumn rather than the summer. (I know there are arguments that autumn is better, but it certainly could be worse.)
It's the 12th series and a lot of people are tired of BB or even think it's a nuisance that it's on.
The media lost its fascination with BB years ago.
There's nothing very fresh or new about this version,
and the ways it has changed make it seem more contrived.
Brian isn't as good a presenter as Davina and his appeal as a BB presenter is largely just to BB fans.
None of the 'secondary shows' are as good as BBLB used to be, and BOTS is usually on 5*, one of the least well-known channels.
The housemates.
Yes, the housemates. They look like they all could have come from a casting agency, they all seem much the same type, and the only story lines they seem able to generate are about manipulative behaviour and bitching, with sex talk and a bit of nudity thrown in. The quieter ones, who might turn out to be interesting, are even more likely than usual to be evicted (because of vote-to-save).
Vote-to-save which will help to keep in the very types of HMs who turned many viewers off BB.
... (add more reasons here) ...
Such things working together seem enough to account for the low numbers, without needing any help from the lack of LF.”

BIB..... No..... I do think they would have a have kept a few more fans had L/F been there from the start

No problem. You were close enough that it wasn't wildly out.

Would those that said it wouldn't drop below 1 million like to have a bet on that?

I did think for a few days that 1.4m was the real hardcore.
So any lower probably wouldn't surprise me now.

I posted this yesterday in another thread and got the rubbish about different demographics making Big Brother more valuable.”

lol @ cowboy builders getting more viewers!

I'm sure Jeff Ford cares very much about the viewers, whoever they may be. I think he was making a broader point about how they were hoping to engage more casual viewers with the show and it was misinterpreted as a dig at the fans. This is simply not the case. He was addressing the media at an industry event.

I'm not going to keep going over the comments made at MGEITF. It was an industry event and it is not my fault if people chose to misinterpret Jeff's comments. I can't speak for other countries but over here the cost of the live feed per viewer was getting greater as interest dwindled and the amount of compliance required increased. If there was money to be made they would be doing it.

I'm generalising obviously, I don't know what if any of the malicious activity you've been involved in personally, but it's fair to say I think that that's where a bulk of these live feed protesters have been concentrating their efforts for some reason.

The launch night viewing figures are vastly effecting the rest of the weeks average.

And now they're losing money instead as ratings continue to fall. Face it, they could have fully revitalized this show and instead they produced a lacklustre, halfhearted, cheap as chips, piss poor, mutilated version of it that its biggest fans are thoroughly dissatisfied with.

Why bring a show back from the dead to only allow it to be half alive?

Looks like Celebrity Juice on ITV2 beat BB....mmmm.

Heads to roll at C5....crisis meetings over the weekend?

If Desmond used to angry over Katie Price what's he going be like over BB's figures?

Karma strikes.

Alienating the core audience didn't help.

They would have been better to totally re branded it with a new name to attract the TOWIE and Geordie Shore audience that they seem to want so desperately.

Sorry mate a lot of them have switched off because things are really that bad. Our loyalty was punished rather than rewarded.

Casual viewers are all very well, but he seems to have - whether he meant to or not - completely alienated the bread and butter regular viewers before he had his casuals in place (and by the very definition of 'casual' that's always going to be an uncertain quantity anyway)

The problem he or C5 or whoever now finds themself with is how to attract them back. I can't see it being live feed for this series, I would be amazed if they back peddled that far, but some rabbit needs to be pulled from a hat.

Tricky one that. Celebrity Juice ran 10pm-10:45pm and BB ran 10:10pm-11:10pm.

This meant BB came out with a higher share of the audience due to the later slot, and Celebrity Juice came out with a very slightly higher programme average.

But we can't say for sure that it beat it in the head-to-head, unless someone has the breakdown for Celebrity Juice between 10:10pm and 10:45pm?

The official i4u core audience rating for BB has yet again been revised down from orginally 2.5m to now 1m.

Advertisers could be calling for a reduction in C5's rate card.

I was a loyal fan and I'm not watching.

And no, I have not emailed/phoned C5 in protest and I do not use Facebook or Twitter, nor will I ever do so.

Actually, studying the breakdown more carefully, BB posted decent gains from 10:45pm onwards. So that would suggest it was being dented by Celebrity Juice for the first 35 minutes or so and it probably beat it.

However, I'm curious to see what happens next week when both programmes begin at the same time. That will be a fairer battle.

Of course, Celebrity Juice will cost peanuts to make in comparison so it's pretty embarrassing for Channel 5.

Perhaps a few, but these HMs are hardly so appealing that many would flock to the show if only it were possible to watch them more.

And if we consider all the other possible reasons for the low numbers, there isn't anything that cries out that some other explanation (such as the lack of LF) is needed.

Originally Posted by Vauxhall Nova:

So? I also liked some of the HMs last year enough that I was interested in seeing more of them. I also watched bb10, which supposedly had damagingly little live coverage, and I'm watching bb12 even though it has no LF. But this time, the HMs aren't ones that make me want to see any more of them.
