Last friday.
I came home to find our frontroom full of an electrical burning fumes.
I rushed around the frontroom and checked everything the fumes / smell were coming from our Bt vision box it was also red hot to the touch i unplugged it straight away and contact Bt them .
We will not be having another vision box in our home .
Bt to date have not impressed me with either there customer service or you would thing with some thing so serious they would at lest warn other customers .
As a family we have been left truly shocked by Bt and its staff.
With this in mind please check your Bt vision for heat problems the serial number of our box was
( S/N: +060604+1114422304 )

Please check your boxes and protect your family

I'm pretty sure thats a first on this forum so you should take heart in that. Did it actually catch fire ?, was it well ventilated ? - ie did it have plenty of space around it ?.

There's well over half a million boxes in circulation and if there was a common fault of this type we'd have heard about it by now. Sounds like an isolated case to me. Definately scary though - and you take that risk with all electrcial devices unfortunately.

Hello and thank you for your comment i work for derbyshire fire service the box was in a well ventilated location , the product clearly had a problem it was unplugged and removed outside my property to a safe location.
Having seen the damage electrical fires have done to peoples homes in the past i was not willing to put my family or my home at risk .
Products should not peoples lives or property at risk !

Hello
Electrics in property to current united kingdom safety standards.
The box has been up and running since April this year and have no other problems.
The box was black in colour .
As for my last sentence i will not be rethinking it.
And we are still awaiting a response from BT regarding this matter , i have also taken advice on the matter from a solicitor .
Thank you for your comment

So, you haven't had the electrics professionally tested in the wake of this incident then?

Powerline adpater?

what will the sols do? (unless he's a sparky on the side!)

nobody injured and/or nothing damaged?

Did your smoke alarm go off? If you have any other electrical items, I would unplug them all and move them to a safe location, especially that Beko fridge freezer. It's good to be cautious, but any electrical can fail like this. It is not an inherent fault. How old was it? Has it built up a lot of dust?

agreed, this is a first. there is a fan on the back, double check to see if no cables got in the way of the fan blade spinning.

could also be overcurrent, another item in the strip causing overcurrent? possible.

I'd be surprised if it was the fan. Mine has been disconnected since the first two weeks that I got it years ago and it's never threatened to overheat in that fashion.

Once i get a response from Bt vision regarding the problem with the box i will copy and paste it on this thread , they have called to say that courier will contacting use to pick up the faulty box .
As for someone calling me a chancer thats rubbish as we have now terminated our contract with Bt and do not intend to use there products again , we were simply trying to warn families if people on here think that is wrong then shame on you

..and all we were doing, looking at the evidence is to suggest to you that you should potentially look at your own situation and wiring in your house.

Webs has had his BTV box 'fan less' for a long time with no problems, this, added to zero other reports of this type of problem with any of the 500k boxes out there in the UK makes me think that the issue is either a one off with your box or something specific to your situation.

..not something to worry about.

we all make our own decisions and choices, and we try to make the best decisions we can at the time given the info. available, good luck with yours. Cheers.

Do not bother. Seems such a waste of time as you have already made your mind up to get rid of BT.

Couldn't agree more, my silver one didn't fully die. twas the hard disc that did. also never heard of any reports of peoples boxes catching fire.

if you got an over current issue then yes it would fry the box. especially if say there was a 13 amp fuse in a 5 amp power strip....

Reads to me like something blew and chucked out the customary smell, these smells are easily carried by movement of air but I doubt that the scene was as bad as described.Anyone know who manufactures the Vision boxes, they're not that different to P.Cs really so is he going to stop using that "Just in case"
