What can you do with blackberries off the street etc.?

I didn't phrase that very well but you know those blackberries (or are they blackcurrants?) that grow along roads all over the place?

There are bloomin loads of them out now and I was wondering if they are worth picking. What can you actually do with them? Anyone tried them?

Yes I have often picked berries. Give them a good wash and make them into a pie, crumble or jam.

Don't pick those at or near ground level... passing dogs/cats/foxes etc may have made their mark!

The same as you can with the ones you buy in the shops.

We used to make wine with them, it was lovely

Or apple and blackberry crumble -yummy

Not sure I'd use them off busy roads though, think of the pollution

We have loads of backberries in the fields around us...I am sure they are really early this year.

I stew them up with some Bramleys and then freeze them for pies and crumbles...yum yum!

Wild brambles are delicious and much nicer than blackberries in the supermarkets.

You can make ice cream with them.

Blackberry picking is one of my childhood memories. Me and my sisters would go down the country lanes near where I lived and pick them. There was one particular spot that always gave really big juicy blackberries.
Then mum would make a blackberry and apple pie out of them.

I've heard if you soak them in salt for a few hours, it soaks up any nasty stuff...or that may be an old myth
