Alba160DTR "+1 channels"

This model has been brilliant since I bought it reconditioned last autumn but have now encountered a slight glitch when recording with Timer. Eg. last night set up Lewis to record on ITV1 (2 hours). First hour from 8-9pm recorded fine but at 9 pm it started recording the same programme simultaneously on ITV1+1. I stopped this second recording manually via Library but this also then stopped the ITV1 recording as well. This has happened several times now.

Is it the machine or does it have something to do with the Timer codings in the EPG?

This is actually normal behaviour for all Vestel baed PVR's. It's all to do with the 'Accurate record' feature within Freeview+. Basically if a recording does not complete for any reason the PVR will try to find a repeat and record that instead.

The problem with the +1 channels is when you have a recording of over an hour... because the first recording is still in progress when the same programme starts on the +1 channel, the PVR assumes it's not complete so records the +1 channel as well!

It's not a fault as such, just a bit of a feature. Partly to do with the Freeview+ specifications, partly the broadcasters, and party the way Vestel have implimented the feature.

Not all - just the T825 and T845R models. The newer v3.4 software on the T835 does not have this problem. Presumably, the T836 inherits this fix too. That said, I don't think it always happens on the T825 and T845R models either, which is slightly odd.

Many thanks for those replies. Presumably the answer is to set the Timer for the "+1" channel. I'll try that next time.

You might have trouble with that, especially with a series record, since the Vestel software will automatically set the timer for the earliest occurrance when you attempt to set a timer on a repeat. This behaviour has varied throughout the different software releases though, and it may work for one-off timers.

I have had this issue only a few times in 3 years on my Wharfedale LP250HDMI T825.

Thanks for explaning this. I've also had this and made the same mistake as the OP.. Presumbly related to this, I've had a situation where a PVR starts to record a program and the re-transmission later in the day of the same program also appears in the timers list then disappears when the first recoding is completed OK. Deleting the second timer setting whilst the first recording is still being made stops the first recording as well. Now I just leave it alone and sort out any duplication after the event.
