The letter at the end signifies the country - U is for UK.

Generally you wouldn't specify the end letter when advertising the set, as long as it's in the correct country of course.

I've had the 55HX923 for a week now - it is fabulous, the best LCD I've ever seen.

Really, that's nice to know, thanks for letting me know, I have not got room for a 55" TV, so opted for the 46" looking forward to getting it now

Just make sure it doesn't have the infamous 'crease'.

Just googled it, looks slightly worrying, I hope mine does not suffer from this issue

If you can be bothered there's a little bit of reading

Here

I bought mine from my local Sony Centre so if I had a problem with it I could return it.

Mine is perfect, but I think some of the early batches had a manufacturing problem, something to do with the adhesive between the panel and the glass.

It looks very faint to me from your picture - can you see it at all when it's displaying a 'normal' picture?

If I put the blue screen up on mine I sometimes think I can see (from about 6") away a lighter strip of blue about 1cm wide down the left hand side, other times I think I'm imagining it. Displaying a normal image I can't detect anything at all, but I had to tell myself to watch the screen and stop concentrating on the edges.

In any event it's the best LCD I've seen (comparable to the 903) and beats all the edge-lit sets hands down.

I also like it much better than the Panasonic VT plasmas, especially viewing in daylight or a lit room.

Thanks for the reply, I think you are right, it is very very faint indeed and does not really show when viewing a normal TV picture. I think I will live with it.

Just to let you know, there's no mention of any problems on Sony Assist, the Sony engineering software - so there's no fix announced yet.

I honestly think if you and I had never heard of the 'crease' we wouldn't have seen a thing. On no other TV I've bought have I put up a plain blue screen and examined it from a nose-lengths away.

You can see anything if you look hard enough.

You could buy a Samsung or similar - it would be guaranteed crease-free but in any other respect could it hold a candle to the Sony - I doubt it very much

The problem was said to have been an adhesive curing issue so there's unlikely to be an engineering fix.

I believe this is the first time that Sony has used Gorilla Glass for a panel, possibly that's a factor (uneducated guess).

In which case the 'cure' would be to replace the entire panel with one that doesn't have the problem. But as I said, there's no mention of anything 'yet'.

Who actually makes the panel?, the previous troublesome LED ones were from Sharp - where the production ones supplied didn't match the spec of the pre-production samples.
