My brother has just bought himself a Sagemcom Freeview+ HD box after his old one packed in. Probably not the best brand but there wasn't much else available that wasn't overpriced.

Anyway, he gave me a call last night asking why, when he tuned to an HD channel, the picture would constantly flick back and forth to a green screen. He's had his father in law take a brief look at it, but got nothing from it. I've advised him to try a different HDMI lead and to also try another HDMI port, but he's not called back to tell me it's working.

He usually receives a good signal from his aerial, but it starts breaking up if you start using your phone in the same room, so I don't know if this says anything about his reception. But surely if an aerial is strong enough to receive Freeview, it can receive Freeview HD, as it's down to the amount of available data being transmitted rather than how much the aerial can pick up... or am I wrong there?

Anyway, would this be an issue with his Freeview box or his aerial? As I say, he claims this is only occurring on HD channels.

Many thanks

I don't know the answer to your particular question. But I have a passive splitter in my system for a global eye and that's enough to knock out the Freeview HD channels(all the SD channels are fine) - if I remove the splitter the HD channels come back.

Sounds like a hdcp hdmi handshake problem. If the transmitter is post dso then the HD mux should be as easy as the SD ones. Pre DSO there are some areas (eg Birmingham/London) with a temporary low power service.
