Humax Foxsat HDR: 'Out of Index'

My second (nearly) DOA replacement has just arrived and delivers an 'Out of Index' message on a blank screen. Random remote button pressing has led display of channels, but info screens are translucent white text, the Menu button forces a reboot, and the 'Out of Index' overlay appears from time to time.

Phoned Humax who are arranging a swap - they know about the problem and say it's not user correctable.

FYI really.

ONE is careless and statistically unlikely with modern methods...
TWO says Pathetic Quality Control or NONE at all..
The PHONE message suggests Bravado and/or a New Batch..

It does appear to be pretty rubbish. The first one locked up requiring a hard reset every few minutes. The replacement had a highly conspicuous "Quality Tested' sticker on. There's no way this machine wold have booted normally, so perhaps the problem (OS corruption) might have happened in transit? Dunno.

The Humax guy was very quick to diagnose the problem and suggest solution at their expense.

Perhaps hard drive damage in transit?

The most fragile part of the whole box.

Automan.

”

Replacement arrived today and seems fine but it's a 320GB model - mine was a 500GB. 'I should have said', Humax say. Another exchange due next week.

I suspect not, Humax would have suggested a reformat.
