It's a video game console. You can play video games on it and connect to the internet and play online multiplayer games against other people from around the world. You can organise a friends list and add people from around the world onto it, and you can then talk to them either through a microphone, text messages or video chat. You can play DVDs on them as well.

Here's a picture of it:

Just in case you don't know what video games are..:

its a media console

apart from games , it will connect to your home network and play your music and video files

you try and buy a NAS hard drive to store all these files on . That connects to your wireless router and the xbox will through its wi-fi connect to your network and stream them in another room. With a NAS hard drive you dont need a PC/ laptop on

a PS3 will do this as well

they are both the same , but you get what your mates have so you can play online with them

The PS3 will serve as a HD blu-ray player, the X box won't.

the x box will play HD DVDs if you can get them !

blu ray is a bonus with the discs finally at a reasonable price

Avatar on my xbox last night was amazing , tempted to get a blu ray player now !

its not really a whats best , but more of what the ps3 / xbox can do apart from games . My mates all have an xbox so thats why I got one . not saying its better , but impressed with the streaming !

so glad all these devices are finally talking to each other in home networks

Why? The bluray player in ps3 is an excellent high quality sony bluray player and you can buy a proper bluray remote for it.

But they do serve up 1080p "full HD" movies over the internet for you. To rent or to buy.

At 25GB for the average movie (1920 x 1080 24 fps progressive) you will need a really generous download allowance not mention a fast broadband connection.

Commercial dual-layer blu-rays have a storage capacity of 50GB.

I have both and xbox online is way more fun, to simply say that Sony don't charge is missing out on the main difference between the online services, I dont even bother with the ps3 online now, both are excellent systems I do prefer the ps3s choice of iplayer, itv and 4 on demand over the xbox's sky player though I must admit even though sometimes it's really buggy.
