Cut the "eat their own children" bit, and I think there's logic in that proposition.
Is true "Middle Britain" not more likely to watch key BBC programming like Doctor Who and holiday in Tuscany during the school summer holidays, than watch key ITV shows like Jeremy Kyle or TXFTNG and not have a summer holiday at all (or a week in a caravan in Blackpool)?

A sweeping statement, and patently wrong.
I, for one, have not predicted that the absence of Mr Cowell would have the slightest impact on TXFTNG's ratings; indeed, I have consistently said that his absence may cause new viewers to tune in.
And I am clearly not the only person on this thread who said it wouldn't make a difference.
