If it's 6pm, they should definitely go for sitcom repeats at 5.30pm.

“Thanks. It'll be interesting if people find it today for the 100m final and 10,000m final - both of which were very eventful and landmark moments in the Championships really. And if people haven't seen them, will they tune in for the highlights tonight against lesser competition having heard about them this afternoon.”

I'm wondering if the stricter (2010?) false-start rule is actually increasing the likelihood of athletes making false starts, through nerves!

I would advise that if there ever was a day for ignoring DS's Ratings article, today is that day: http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/tv/s7/do...r-episode.html

At least make a note about the large timeshifts instead of ruling it out as 'mediocre'...

To be fair, it does say:

Quote:
“The BBC was widely criticised earlier this year for showing episodes during the 6pm hour, after audience figures indicated that the sci-fi drama was in decline.

However, showrunner Steven Moffat argues that the family show's high BBC iPlayer audience makes up for the lower overnight ratings.”

How does Vintage TV rate?

So take it off Saturdays then! If I was a channel controller this "time shift boost" would get short shrift. If its not a team player in the evenings line up, its not doing ts job.

noooo, BBC One ratings would sink totally this autumn on Saurdays if DW was moved. When the BBC moved it in the 80s, ratings suffered and the show died an inglorious death against Coronation St. Mind you the last four series in the 80s were total junk.

I don't have its overnights but according to the BARB Top 10s, it's top programme of the week usually only gets about 50k, with the majority of programmes rating below that mark.

My local in North Shields shows it as it attracts mostly people over 40. I think with a bit more publicity it could do better. The station is way better than predictable VH1.

At least I could understand the plots (such as they were) of those final few series.

I do cringe at Steven Moffat's comments. Talking publicly about the ratings is such an uncool thing to do as showrunner, don't ya think?

Plus I'm kinda bored of the whole "it timeshifts a lot" argument. I think everybody is well aware of that by now. But I can't remember the last time the show wowed me in the overnights - and it has in the past. Merlin is arguably more noteworthy ratings wise these days for its terrific work as a popular alternative to The X Factor.

Compared to what it used to get, i'd say "mediocre" is a fairly accurate description. Still, "mediocre" isn't "poor", so there's no need for the Dr Who fans to get all overly defensive. It's not like the show is in any danger anyway.

I'm just pleased that this will hopefully put to bed that crap about how the 6pm-ish slot was hurting it, as these ratings clearly show that wasn't the case at all.

"mediocre" is now "decent" on DS's article (although the comments are rather scathing of the article).

An article written by an ITVista to please his pro-ITV/anti-BBC DS masters, playing to a largely anti-BBC readership.

Bears shitting in woods, popes being catholics...

But you work in commercial television, and have advertisers' demands to satisfy.

I expect they're not very satisfied with you at the moment though, unless they've negotiated a good discount over the summer, or are finding the often higher-rating Ch4 and Five cheaper...

I'm still laughing at your image of the evil Digital Spy ITVstas dicatating the ratings articles.

You have a point in not understanding it. And if you mention not understanding it in the show thread you basically become a dullard who shouldnt be tuning in at all.

I have watched the vast majority of the modern episodes but the story arc this time takes a bit of following(and seems to make it more of a serial) and having to accept that the slim young and pretty Pond is whatsernames mum is difficult enough to deal with even if kind of comprehend that bit.(btw-if she isnt her mum them Im lost)

So the question is do we need A level conundrums at 7.00 on Saturdays and stuff that we have to really concentrate on. I guess its brilliant sci-fi and its visually stunning as ever-I just wonder if its a little too much Odyssey and a little too less Star Wars at the moment-especially as it was a returning whet the appetite show for the rest of the series.

your posts are normally intellgent (more so than mine at any rate) how could you not understand it? I thought it was very clear what was happening, even if some (or all of it) rather cheapens the idea of regenration.

The story arc has gone on for a very long time. If you miss an episode you wonder what's going on.

I'm loving it, though, it's nice to have something very indepth to immerse myself in lol.

Good, if unspectacular, for CBB. It's a shame that the eviction show didn't hit 3 million and that it fell to such a low last night.

Jeff Forde is correct when he says that people don't want to give C5 s chance, but with shows like The Bachelor and OK:TV I can't see the perception of the channel changing anytime soon.

The X Factor continues to do amazingly well with the refreshing new judging panel, and it seems to be helping the ASFF. The Will Young Special fell like a lead balloon though ( predictably.)
