In 2009 All the races were shown live in primetime on BBC 2 and I'm fairly sure all the qualifiers were on BBC 2 as well. They did well for BBC 2 as Usain Bolt was all over the news at the time and British Athletes started winning again.
In 2007 when the the WAC were in Japan and had a very similar a time zone as the current Championship, only one of BBC 2's Highlights show/Live Coverage had over 1.4m for the entire championship!
Barb-WORLD ATHLETICS (WED 1900) 1.53.
The 2003/5 championships were both in European timezones. I can't remember 2005 very well, but what I do remember was that it rained a lot
and that it did poorly on both BBC 1 and 2.
IN 2003 for the Paris Championship BBC ONE cleared large parts of their schedule for it, they even moved Mondays edition of Eastenders. All of the ratings were well below the slot averages and the only one who benefited was ITV1.
Looking back at the Barb site the ratings were so low that even the 5.30pm airing of Neighbours and Tuesday Night 10.35 documentary made it into that weeks Top 30!
The 2007 Osaka games are the games that the current championship should be compared to and as I said above the live and highlight figures were extremely poor.”

Sure it would be nice if we could make a calcuation that tells us shows add (for example) 15% to overnights for a more reflective figure, but that simply isnt the case, each show timeshifts differntly, for differnt reasons.”

For advertisers though it's people watching the ads that count, so for commercial channels the overnights count for everything really.

I think given this summers ratings that ITV really need to look at restoring the Sunday soap hour and basically going back to what they had 3-4 years ago.

Just awful for ITV 1. They really need to rethink there summer strategy for next year in order to avoid these embarrassing plummets again. Scheduling repeats of Dic Martin and Dowtown Abbey coupled with the Harry Potter movies wouldn't have been such a bad idea.
