Would it be better for ITV if Joanna just invited the audience back to her house and showed them her holiday slides?

I was surprised Andy that the News Channel chose to simulcast NaT. Is that normal during a big breaking news story? Not a criticism, just something that struck me as odd.
Like many others I suspect I've been channel hopping all evening, catching short bursts of coverage from here there and everywhere. Sky News at Ten carried a touching interview with the owners of the furniture store which was totally devastated by fire in Croydon. Also BBC World is largely simulcasting with BBC News this evening and took the bulletin as well. Talking of which, I've never seen any figures for BBC World but would be interesting to know if for breaking British stories whether their viewership goes up around the world, especially in the US where it's a fairly minor player compared to CNN and Fox News. |

I can't believe all this thuggery we're witnessing on the news. Let's hope we don't lose the Olympics because of it.

Fingers crossed it'll be forgotten by this time next week.
West Ham's game tomorrow postponed, decision to be made on Wed about England v Holland - though considering the police are stretched I can't see it going ahead, and probably too late to switch to another ground. |

Back on topic and I guess it'll be Midsomer Murders on Wednesday then, and probably some Corrie related filler at 7.30pm. |

I know this is a bit off topic, but I do remember riots 10 years ago in Bradford and Burnley rumbling on for two weeks and the serious disorder in 1981 lasting two months, though not continuously. However, now it has taken a more sinister turn with people just going out and looting for the hell of it.

I can't believe what's happening in London. I'm surprised one of the main channels hasn't taken advantage, as it were, and aired non-stop coverage after the news rather than a quiz show or an old film.
An awful night for ITV rating-wise and outside the soaps tonight will be the same. BBC One holds up very well. Dragon's Den performed excellently, but how will it cope with the 8pm move? Men in Black performed excellently for Channel 5. Channel 4 had a medicore night, really, considering the collapse of ITV1. |

I have to agree I found it odd that BBC News was airing News at 10, News at 10 on BBC 1 is obviously good for a round up, but this is a breaking news story, best done on BBC News.
It also gives people who just want a place to catch up on the riots somewhere to go, where as News at Ten obviously isnt a place for that. Also BBC News is playing it very safe with its coverage, recycled footage, very little on the street footage, it might as well be radio. |

I know this was confirmed a few days ago but surprising to see X Factor USA milking the judges houses to four shows over three weeks rather than having an extra week of auditions. Also looks like they'll do the reveal of the finalists live.
https://www.facebook.com/note.php?cr...04513569620273 Just wondering whether we might see something similar here, especially with rumours of extra and longer live shows. |

Occassionally they do dip out if they can do something better - provide live coverage of something, but tonight I think News at Ten was in a position to do it better - they had all the resources. |

Men in Black II did very well for Channel 5 considering theyve shown in lots of times, I bet they'll dust both films when MIB III comes out next May.

Several shows I wanted to watch last night - Missed them all to stick with rolling news as I’d imagine many others did.
Good to see that anarchy in London couldn’t shift the bloody weather forecast from it’s regular slot on the BBC News Channel. It’s like some kind of fetish! |

Due to recent events News channels have seen a dramatic rise in viewing. BBC News channels weekday 12 month peak average (6pm-10.30pm) is 130,000 – 0.6%. Last night this figure rose to 992,100 (4.5%), peaking at 2m. Similarly Sky News’s average of 65,200 (0.3%) was surpassed when 791,200 (3.6%) tuned in, peaking at 1.4m .
