Where did you get the Coronation Street ratings from?

DS reports quite a different figure

The 7.30pm figure from DS looks like a typo. The figure they report of 7.86m (38.2%) would suggest 20.6m people were watching TV between 7.30-8.00pm, which can't be right, when you consider during Emmerdale 21.8m were watching TV half an hour earlier and 24.6m watching TV half an hour later.

The 8.30pm Corrie rating they report looks correct.

ITV1 could be in the 1millions tonight as again its all repeats.

There'll be no point in moving any of the Europa League matches to ITV1 as of course from the start of the group stage Channel 5 get first choice, so ITV's match will always be weaker, certainly not of ITV1 quality. In addition, now ITV4 doesn't have any Champions League football this is the only competitive football they have so that would weaken ITV4 quite considerably.


Presumably they've commissioned four of these things to run throughout the year, hence the irregular occurance, but they aren't really very good, it's just a bog-standard chat show like every other thing on telly, it offers nothing that the likes of Alan Carr isn't doing. And last night Stephen Mangan was talking about Episodes, which was on six months ago! There are too many chat shows on telly with three guests and a band.

But you see all these threads with people moaning nothing special is on Bank Holiday Monday so fair play to BBC2 for doing something out of the ordinary, if you're going to move Shooting Stars you may as well move it on a Bank Holiday. Compare that to Chris Moyles' Quiz Night which started at 10.30, moved to 9.30 and the final episode this week is at eleven o'clock!

I do wonder if Channel 5 had a better daytime schedule, it would beat Channel 4 all day shares. Not that the current daytime schedule isn't working but it could be better. I imagine they do beat Channel 4 and BBC Two in the morning,

Big Brother seem to attracting a loyal 2m but the real test is this week when Shameless and MPD return.

Dragons' Den had 3.01m (13.3%) including HD.

Yeah, weird they haven't reported Friday's soap ratings or Saturday's ratings (apart from Doctor Who) yet.

Using the timings mentioned on Attentional, the tape-checked overnights for Friday 26th August look set to be:

18:30- Hollyoaks: 910k (5.0%)
19:00- Emmerdale: 6.47m (34.2%) , +1: 110k
19:30- Coronation Street: 7.50m (36.8%) , +1: 87k
20:00- EastEnders: 8.06m (36.5%)
20:30- Coronation Street: 7.76m (33.9%) , +1: 174k
22:00- EastEnders (BBC3): 781k (4.0%)

Couldn't help but notice an advert on ITV yesterday saying that Corrie is on everyday next week. Clearly Tuesday is not a proper day then...

BTW, for anyone wondering how much Red or Black? is an hour, apparently its budget is £15 million. 90 minutes a night x 7 nights = 630 minutes => 10.5 hours. £15m divided by 10.5 hours = £1.4 million an hour.

So don't be surprised if we see other Syco related people on the show throughout the week.

That's more than a drama and would make recommising tricky unless it's done stripped across a week as weekly it would be too expensive.

I imagine FOX or NBC will try and get the US rights should it be a hit over here.

Scott & Bailey could be ready for Spring as filming will take place between late-October to February so it could be shown in April/May, but I think you're right that they'll leave it for the summer as they know it can perform well at that time of the year. I'm not too sure about Monroe, which was struggling a little towards the end of the series, whether it could cope in the summer especially with a few episodes up against the Olympics. Maybe it could get 4-4.5m in the overnights, which they could regard as respectable for the time of the year. I agree with your schedule on the whole though. It's got the mix between new drama, repeated drama, factual and light entertainment just right and that schedule would definitely rated better than the current summer one. If ITV don't want to play some established drama series during the summer, I don't see why they don't air some 3-part serials instead, which if they flop won't matter too much compared to if a full 6/8 part drama series flopped.

Channel 4 broke Channel 5's chain of wins last night. After 11 consecutive evenings of Channel 5 beating Channel 4 in primetime, Channel 5 finally came unstuck against the national treasure that is Stephen Fry!

Channel 4: 7.4%
Channel 5: 5.4%

I must admit outside of CBB those were a disappointing set of results for Channel 5 last night. Soho Blues was down nearly 200k on the series 1 average a couple of years ago and it didn't really have any competition in that genre except maybe The Conspiracy Files. I think moving forward Channel 5 should look to movies and specials for Bank Holidays rather than trying to run a normal schedule. Neighbours was dented too. Alone Among Grizzlies did okay, dented by the ridiculous 10 minute early finish.

How long is Soho Blues on for? I think Paul Merton will go there if not The Hotel Inspector as Wednesdays no longer have NCIS repeats so there is now 9pm slots that are free.

I agree movies or specials would perform better on bank holidays.

Meanwhile in the weekly shares for week ending August 21:

Channel 4: 5.6%
Channel 5: 5.0%

That gap is the smallest it has been since week ending May 2nd 2010 when Channel 5 had 5.3% vs Channel 4's 5.5%. (the former boosted massively that week by a high-profile Europa League fixture)

These do exclude +1 by the way, which would put Channel 4 further ahead, but it's still an achievement. And we haven't seen what they've recorded for their first full week with CBB yet.

You get the feeling if they'd pushed that little bit harder, bringing their big hitters like Hotel Inspector back sooner, they could have taken the lead for a while. Channel 4 is in a vulnerable position at the moment, lacking any real big hitters with all of its strong factual shows off air. Shameless is back tonight though which could spell trouble for Celebrity Big Brother. Having said that by the end of its last run Shameless was in quite low territory so it's a difficult one to predict, but for a series premiere I'd be very surprised if Shameless wasn't ahead. I just hope CBB stays above the 2m mark.

5 episodes apparently. Although it wasn't in their last Press Booklet, so I don't know if that means they aren't showing them all in one go.

The Hotel Inspector should go back on Mondays as it performed excellently there earlier in the year.

Shameless really benefitted from BFGW but starting to falter after it finished, I do wonder with Shameless whether it'll end or be axed because it still rates well but I think it's reached its natural conclusion.

As I said before, if Channel 5 had a stronger daytime schedule, they would beat Channel 4 in all day shares. The Autumn schedule has Hotel Inspector, Paul Merton, Bridage and Dangerous Driving School although I'm unsure about Funfair and Showmen which sounds like Gypsy Weddings at the fairground and the appeal of Gypsy Weddings was the freak show element of the traditions and the hideous wedding dresses,

I think Hotel Inspector on Mondays and Paul Merton on Wednesday would work, Paul Merton pulls in a solid audience although this series is a bit different from his last three as it about different methods of holidaying rather than a continent.

Do Channel 4 have the lifetime rights to Deal or No Deal? Just wondering if Endemol and Channel 5's growing partnership could open up any opportunities there.

The afternoon movies perform well, but they always have that difficult hour coming out of Neighbours to fill. If they could push them back to 2:15pm and slide in a popular daytime entertainment format at 4pm that could work very well.

I imagine Channel 4 will try and keep hold of DOND but gameshows haven't done well for Channel 5 as they tried them at 6.30pm although they rated better than OKTV does. Maybe a daily factual show like the ones at 7.30pm would work and with product placement and AFP would be cheap to produce and bring in better ratings.
