Very good for Sky News to beat BBC News in some slots, especially with their smaller reach.

Good that Sky News is in HD, will help the police identify the thugs more easily!!
With so many newly looted HD sets being tuned in, HD ratings should soar considerably next week*

* assuming they also loot BARB boxes and connect them up

Can the Loose Women be recalled too?

This Morning discussed the riots between 10.30am and 10.50am with a police commisioner and gobby radio host Jon Gaunt. Then they reviewed the papers (much the same thing).
Cash In The Attic was delayed from 11.30am to 11.45am due to a BBC News Special.

Seriously though, I doubt they could have identified 'fire extinguisher thrower' on SD helicopter footage. Four times as much detail, four times as much chance of identification.

.
They then gave a dog a makeover, I'm not even joking

Which I think is right, some people will need a distraction/alternative particularly older people.

Wonder how the ratings will be impacted by any schedule changes this evening?

Could we see a news special instead of The One Show or a Tonight special instead of Cops with Cameras.

I wonder if the BBC News channel actually beat the unaggregated ITV1 figure in the 9pm hour last night? Must have been close.

Very impressive for the BBC Ten to get an aggregated 8.4m live audience last night.

Channel 4 have picked up another US drama, this time it being 'Charlie's Angels': http://www.channel4.com/info/press/n...res-television

It'll air on E4.

I suspect BBC news was second in the slot from 9.15-10.00 as those live shots of the burning furniture shop in Croydon came through.

So ITV's hope of 2m+ on Wednesday is ruined.

What will they show instead?

I'd stick a repeat of Come Rain Come Shine.

I agree - I would be surprised if they put on Lewis or Midsomer, in the circumstances it wouldn't be right. I would do:

19:00 - Emmerdale
19:30 - You've Been Framed! (R)
20:00 - Harry Hill's TV Burp (R)
20:30 - Come Rain Come Shine (R)

Not surprising to see so many flocking to the news channels as things unfolded last night trying to find out what was going on. Didn't really hit New Tricks though, did it?! Another simply massive rating.

I'm sure it'll premiere well - revivals always seem to - but I'd be a bit concerned about it on the evidence of the ABC preview which looked cringeworthy. Interesting to see E4 laying claim to this sort of mainstream content now. Channel 4 appear to have retreated almost completely from mainstream, broadcast US drama into niche cable stuff like The Killing.

So while crimes are being committed in London, ITV put on a crime drama...

I know! I was one of few people expecting a fairly big drop for New Tricks last night. Alas, it didn't materialise. That show is just unstoppable.

22:00 - BBC News at Ten: 7.15m (32%)
* peak: 8.35m
* highest News at Ten figure of the year

My goodness, those ratings are absolutely brilliant. And 6 million for the Six O' Clock News is excellent - probably bad words to use in light of the riotous atrocity and the catalysmic repercussions caused by the riots.

Highest figure in years?

He corrected the figure and BBC News At Ten actually peaked at 7.69m.

No, I don't think it does because that ITV1 figure includes +1 doesn't it?

No, that 1.87m ITV1 figure D.M.N. posted doesn't include +1. You can see the reported ratings for yourself on websites such as DS and Broadcast which make that clear:

- DS
- Broadcast

No need to get all arsey about it. DMN's summary stated a rounded 1.9m for SMTF including +1. So I assumed the 1.87m figure in your post was the aggregated number.

I think you can safely boast that the BBC is the number one place to watch your neighbourhood burn down.
