Just read on twitter that Trollied is the best ever launch for a UK comedy on multi-channel...

I also see the repeat last night did respectable numbers at 10.30pm.

The BB end date / finale of Nov 13th could make sense - it would be a day before I'm A Celeb returns?

I'm a Celebrity normally returns on a Sunday, not Monday.

On a similar note, I'll be interesting to see what they do with Outnumbered, the same fate could happen there if they keep making it when the whole point of the show has gone.
The new series is supposed to be shown this autumn on BBC One, and new sitcom The Royal Bodyguard was mentioned for an autumn slot when it was announced, but I'm not aware of any other sitcoms on the channel this autumn.

Maybe there's some stuff I don't know about. No BBC One autumn press launch anymore, after the hoo-ha about The Queen documentary.

Mrs Brown's Boys I thought was heading to a 9:30pm slot at some point in the Autumn.

So did I, but the programme's thread now seems to think it won't be on until the New Year.

Maybe it'll make it to air in late autumn.

Sky One will be hoping 'Trollied' has longevity (over the 8 episodes) - dropping over 10% after just 30 minutes (there was nothing else starting at 9.30 Thursday.) There was a repeat of the 1st two episodes from 10.30-11.30 Friday evening, so not sure how it will affect the timeshift. Just one episode next Thursday, so it ought be quite steady - I would say 950,000 for episode 3 in the overnights.

Sky One will have a decent September as An Idiot Abroad 2: The Bucket List is due to start a run, so they will definitely be increasing their audience share.

Unusual for us to have a new thread in the middle of such a non eventful weekend. They usually crop up at key ratings moments.

The idea of ITV being "pleased" with something getting 2m is ridiculous! Maybe for last night's particular programme they weren't expecting much from it - after all it was the kind of show which usually has done badly in the past. But really they ought to be looking at a 3m+ Monday to Friday 9pm average during the summer, at the very least.

Next summer, there's about 4/5 weeks between the end of Euro 2012 and the start of the Olympics. My suggestion from the week after Euro 2012 ends would be:

- Mondays: burn off what could possibly be the last series of L&O: UK where it'd get c4.5m against normal competition. In the scenario that New Tricks is airing on this night, obviously they'd have to have it on another evening.
- Tuesdays: assuming 71 Degrees North gets a consistent ~3.5m on Tuesdays this Autumn (this is a big if), move it to the summer where it could get ~3m at 9pm. At 8pm, re-run Doc Martin which has aired in this slot in the past and done fine.
- Wednesdays: have 4 new episodes of Midsomer Murders in July. Instead of airing them in May pre-Euro 2012, switch them to July (c.5m) and have some repeats of another crime drama in May where they'd get 3.5m. Unusual to have new stuff in summer and repeats in late-Spring, I know, but they did have new episodes in the summer a couple years ago. Directly follow up these new episodes with repeats of Midsomer Murders in late-July/August, this would be timed exactly to begin when the Olympics are airing - should be good for 3-4m as fans of the show would be in a routine of watching it and might even mistaken the repeats to be new episodes.
- Thursdays: Police, Camera, Action/Cops with Cameras. They aired PCA in this slot last year and it got c.3.5m IIRC. Would be an improvement on how Single-Handed has done.
- Fridays: a few episodes of Live WWTBAM (~4.5m) and then repeats of a crime drama (i.e. Foyle's War etc) when Olympics begin which should be capable of 3m+.
- Saturdays: re-run five Harry Potter movies once again, 7-9.30/10pm. Could be good for ~4m, even if it doesn't do as well as that, it'd definitely rate better than the likes of Odd One In and Marriage Ref have done in those slots this year.
- Sundays: move Lewis from its April/May slot to July. The show is winding down, it could be its last series, so they could give the better April/May slot to a new drama which needs the best slots possible and have Lewis in July which would still be capable of c5.5m between 8-10pm. Like MM, directly follow these up with repeats of the show when Olympics begin. At 7pm, whatever they show probably isn't going to rate as well as The Royal/Heartbeat, but a game show like All Star Family Fortunes could maybe do okay.

Basically a low-risk strategy with no brand-new programmes airing at all. It's a boring, lazy schedule but they'd know what they'd be getting with these shows instead of doing what they did this year which was air about half a dozen brand-new programmes in the summer, all of which could have flopped and all of which actually did flop! Cost-wise, there'd effectively be about 9 more hours of new dramas in that July/August schedule than this year, but it would be balanced out by there being virtually no new dramas in June due to the Euros, and reduced costs on the Saturday night schedule by not having original programming. So all in all, they wouldn't be be spending anymore money on that schedule than this year but almost certainly be getting higher ratings than the awful ones they've had this summer, but BBC1 would still be comfortably ahead most nights, obviously especially during the Olympics.
Overall a sound plan, but budget wise I suspect Euro 2012 might wipe out much of your planned drama in July as although they're not shelling out for drama in June, they are shelling out for 15-16 matches - or more if some reports are to be believed.

It is interesting how things change in a few years though - back in 2006/07 when it was believed ITV were seriously interested in Big Brother (by C4 at least!) the thought of them being able to clear an hour a night to air it in primetime was pretty much unthinkable. Now they pretty much need that sort of show to fill the 9pm slot throughout the summer.

Think what the situation would be if GMTV was still continuing now.
The ratings would probably be the same, the press would be running negative stories about Kate Garraway and Penny Smith, the stories that they all hate each other behind the scenes would be continuing, the press and threads here would still be demanding that the show is axed.
Exactly - axing GMTV wasn't a mistake, and even commissioning Daybreak itself wasn't really a mistake - and I wouldn't say Adrian Chiles is a mistake either, though Christine on the otherhand IMO has always been hugely over-rated - but when you look at the B-team of Dan Lobb and Kate Smileaway you can't say there are ready made replacements waiting in the wings either, unlike Breakfast where I always find Charlie/Susannah far more watchable than Bill and Sian.

I think Big Brother will end on the 11th November, no way will they want to compete with IAC.

If Paul Millar is reading this, any chance of some BBC News and Sky News figures for the early hours from say 10pm to 2am, if possible?

Oooh, nice and early ratings. Thanks rzt. Not a bad set of ratings either it seems in all honesty, think BBC and ITV will be pleased. Potter's rating also suggests to me they should have just had every Potter film in primetime instead of Odd One In and Penn and Teller flopping, a very good rating for it. Do you have a breakdown or peak for it - I'm guessing it peaked at over 6 million?

Thanks for the news figures as well.

There was lot of Tweeting last night too during the midnight repeat.

Mad Dogs went from 967,000 to an aggregated 2.4m in its first seven days.

It's a shame BBC News was watched by more than Sky News yesterday as they didn't cover the Tottenham riot story very well at all. In fact they didn't cover it much at all!

Thanks.

So against BBC it was:

18:40 - 3.56m (19.2%) vs 5.25m (28.4%)
19:40 - 4.85m (23.6%) vs 5.71m (27.8%)

And presumably a slight win versus Casualty even with the first 20 minutes in the 9pm hour dragging ITV down substantially. Not often you see In It to Win It lose its slot, anyway.

The Potter repeats always do well for them - next year they should take the easier approach and run it fully in primetime until 10pm, because the latter ones would win the slot quite easily I think.

Anything for the Spurs game on ITV4 - 5 to 7.30pm yesterday?

Or indeed Everton on Friday night 7.30 -10pm?

Thanks rzt.

Very good rating for Potter, I can't remember the last time ITV was above 5m on a Saturday night in the Summer before TXF's return. Terrific peak too. They definitely should have ran them all in primetime, with maybe P&T on after them. Ronnie Corbett got similar numbers to P&T, OK-ish but not great. Decent evening for BBC1, but Potter did dent TTN again.

The problem ITV did with Harry Potter was not starting the films in primetime.

Harry Potter performed very well for ITV1. Not bad for Ronnie Corbett as well, I had a feeling this would do okay considering BBC Two were not running their usual schedule which may appeal to a similar kind of viewer. Casualty also strong considering it started half an hour before HP finished.

Terrible for Watchmen. Why did Channel 4 choose to premiere a long movie on a Saturday night at 10pm? Total waste. I recorded it and will watch it minus ads another time.

Not the best of nights for Channel 5. The late schedule change didn't help. But why do they keep repeating Law & Order? It doesn't rate on repeat. Also CSI: New York was part 2 of the CSI Trilogy. Why show part 2 but not parts 1 and 3? They should have just skipped that episode. SVU and CSI #2 posted strong numbers though.

Not often you see In It to Win It lose its slot, anyway.
The last time they lost the timeslot was last September when three shows went head to head with The X Factor but last night's 4.85m would still place them in the top 15 shows. Where in September it failed to reach the top 30. In a nutshell they won the timeslot 11 times from 12 in 2011.
