Of course we've had The Bachelor before, it had three series on BBC3, and obviously ITV ripped it off with Mr Right, which is the exact same format. Mr Right was a big old flop, The Bachelor seemed to do OK for BBC3, hence the three series. I guess the advantage for this new series is that Gavin Henson is famous, so it's about Winning A Date With Someone Famous You've Heard Of rather than Winning A Date With Just Some Guy, which was the case in the previous incarnations, and in the end the public are going to wonder why anyone would want to take part or win it.

Nobody's said that, it's just been that the Beeb's output has been better scheduled and they haven't been churning out identical programmes back to back or anchoring nights around a load of rubbish. ITV would probably have enjoyed more success this summer if they'd put one established show in amongst their Saturday night LE, if they'd showed at least one decent drama in midweek and if they hadn't put niche programming in the middle of primetime.
I don't know why everyone's slagging off Tonight's The Night, I know Barrowman is an acquired taste but it's a perfectly proficient bit of LE fluff for a Saturday night, I don't go out of my way to watch it but I was at my parents' the other week and we had it on as the least objectionable viewing and it didn't make me want to vomit or anything. If it's that easy to make a hit LE show, how come that's doing OK in the ratings (not X Factor levels, but perfectly accpetable for the time of year) and Born To Shine is stinking the place out? If it's so bad how come ITV can't do something better?

And if they do then the Channel Four board should all be fired after the umpteen years they've pleaded poverty. They're supposed to be a PSB that provides an alternative to mainstream programming, which F1 certainly is not, and neither is Euro 2012.
