On BBC1 SD (On BBC 1 Wales at least) the sound also went.

Yes, so I notice, but I could have watched it on Thursday - but I tend not to traipse through the thousand Simpsons repeats on Sky One in the EPG in case one of them might be new. It wasn't even billed as new in the Radio Times. What an absolute waste of an episode.

Anyway decent night for ITV, 5 million must be their best Saturday night figure since BGT finished. In a few weeks time the people's channel can stop worrying as they will be guaranteed at least 10 million viewers for TXF.
My predictions for the autumn: TXF will average 11 million, SCD about the same, IAC if the contestants are good 10 million( 7 million if they hire a load of duds), CBB 2.5 million, non celeb BB 2 million( this seems to be the core audience for it now), Doctor Who 8 million including timeshift. If X Facor does Average 11 million that will be 3 million down from last year. i think the average will be like 2009 when it got 12.0m. |

TXF will most likely average out at 11-12 million. It will be down slightly, like BGT, but certainly nothing to worry ITV bosses. I do think once TXF, IAC and Downton Abbey get into their stride ITV1 can forget about this summer.
However, credit to Channel 5 for scheduling CBB and BB in the way they have. At last they realised something Channel 4 didn't- not many viewers are interested in watching people asleep- and cutting the run of the non celeb BB answers another criticism. Also ending it before IAC starts was wise, as it was unlikely BB could compete against this. |

It looks like Sky News took the lead at 1am which is something at least.

This will be music to the broadcasters' ears - long range weather models are predicting a well below average August and September for the UK, as much as 2C cooler in the south:

Well, as long as you could see it, it was OK, wasn't it? And no more embarrassing than them transmitting Ivan Gaskell and Martin Peters' small talk before their interview instead of their interview.

I should probably stop subscribing to Broadcast, it doesn't tell me much I don't already know, but I've read it forever so I'm sticking with it. Anyway, there's a bit about Saturday nights this week including a chart of the Top 30 Saturday night light entertainment programmes since 2006, which is quite interesting to see them all in one go, and I thought they might be worth putting here. It's one entry per series, natch..
1) Britain's Got Talent, 30/05/09, ITV1 - 18.29m 2) The X Factor, 11/12/10, ITV1 - 15.10m 3) Strictly Come Dancing, 18/12/10, BBC1 - 14.28m 4) Dancing On Ice, 04/03/06, ITV1 - 11.68m 5) The Eurovision Song Contest, 14/05/11, BBC1 - 9.69m 6) The One Ronnie, 25/12/10, BBC1 - 8.79m 7) The Girls Aloud Party, 13/12/08, ITV1 - 8.65m 8) Soapstar Superstar, 14/01/06, ITV1 - 8.61m 9) Let's Dance For Comic Relief, 07/03/09, BBC1 - 8.44m 10=) Harry Hill's TV Burp, 06/12/08, ITV1 - 8.28m 10=) Any Dream Will Do, 09/06/07, BBC1 - 8.28m 12) Ant and Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway, 21/10/06 - 8.21m 13) How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria, 16/09/06, BBC1 - 8.20m 14) The National Lottery Draws, 18/12/10, BBC1 - 7.95m 15) Total Wipeout, 02/01/10, BBC1 - 7.84m 16) The National Lottery In It To Win It, 07/02/09, BBC1 - 7.81m 17) We Are Most Amused, 15/11/08, ITV1 - 7.76m 18) Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, 11/02/06, ITV1 - 7.74m 19) All Star Mr and Mrs, 30/05/09, ITV1 - 7.56m 20) Ant and Dec's Christmas Show, 26/12/09, ITV1 - 7.46m 21) All Star Family Fortunes, 24/11/07, ITV1 - 7.38m 22) Let's Dance For Sport Relief, 13/03/10, BBC1 - 7.27m 23) Ant and Dec's Push The Button, 27/02/10, ITV1 - 7.25m 24) I'd Do Anything, 31/05/08, BBC1 - 7.18m 25) The National Lottery Jet Set, 13/05/06, BBC1 - 7.08m 26) Over The Rainbow, 22/05/10, BBC1 - 6.95m 27) The National Lottery 1 vs 100, 14/10/06, BBC1 - 6.81m 28) Making Your Mind Up, 04/03/06, BBC1 - 6.75m 29) So You Think You Can Dance, 02/01/10, BBC1 - 6.70m 30) An Audience With Coronation Street, 22/04/06, ITV1- 6.62m I'm not sure how scientific this chart is. I'm certain that number 9 and 22 should not be classified as separate programmes, and I wouldn't have included number six, certainly, and probably not number twenty either because I wouldn't count Christmas Day or Boxing Day as Saturday night. I don't think number five or 17 count either as official light entertainment shows. You could argue that some of these shows only get in there because they're propped up by being in between or alongside other hits, like numbers ten and nineteen, but then you could also argue that others are only in there because the opposition was crap, like number nine. Two slightly interesting things, though - when was the last time we had An Audience With? Not for ages, it seems. Also, impressive ratings there for Soapstar Superstar, which seems a show that's now been completely forgotten about, apart from all the unpleasantness about the phone voting of course which is why it will never come back. But it's strange it did so well given that a) that first series was on at exactly the same time as Just The Two Of Us, which is virtually the same show, and b) they completely changed all the personnel for series two. And it also seems bizarre they would have done it before the Celebrity X Factor, because it made that look contrived and out of date, so ITV were basically spoiling their own show. |

That X Factor figure is incorrect. 17.71m (inc. HD) for last years final.

Not much point arguing with a ranting loon but Morecame & Wise started on ATV. Most of Ronnie Barkers early work was with LWT.
Carry on ranting.. ![]() Trying to claim RonnIe Barker as an ITV star would be like trying to claim Harry Hill as a BBC star because his first starring TV series was Harry Hill's Fruit Fancies on BBC2. And M&W may indeed have had their first success at ATV (and concluded their career at Thames) but they will still be regarded as BBC stars, just as Benny Hill is regarded as an ITV star even though he spent thirteen years starring on the BBC before he joined Thames. |

rzt, do you have any ratings data for The Big Bang Theory on Channel 4 please? (Friday 29th July 2320-2350 and Friday 5th August 2330-0000)
No mention of it after Friday night's episode, but it's going walkabout on Channel 4 again. There's no episode scheduled for either Friday 12th or Friday 19th. It next crops up on Monday 22nd. Nice of them to warn us it's moving nights! The channel's treatment of this show is just shocking. Not even worth waiting for the HD showing if they're treating fans like this. But unfortunately E4 are now too far ahead for me to switch to watching it on that so I'm stuck with useless C4. |

Has Dancing on Ice ever bettered that Saturday rating from 2006 on a Sunday? |

The reason why a lot of that material doesnt get remembered is because it is so rarely seen. If Robbie, had said their best work was on the BBC I'd have agreed. But he didn't. |

Not forgetting Kenny Everett, who many people regard as a Thames star, but who actually achieved his greatest succes with the BBC in the early eighties. It's odd that ITV have done retrospectives on him, but the BBC have ignored him.

The Harry Potter repeat showing how ITV's summer Saturday entertainment show trio underperformed. Quote:
25) The National Lottery Jet Set, 13/05/06, BBC1 - 7.08m
Another entertainment success for Peter Fincham.

The last An Audience With... episode was a Michael Buble episode last year on Sunday 23rd May. They had an Audience With Donny & Marie episode the previous year too, but again, that wasn't on a Saturday, it aired on Wednesday 11th November 2009. Thanks for posting the list.

I'd also discount three of the four Andrew Lloyd Webber shows as they are essentially one series. Take out the duplicate Lottery shows too and we've easily trimmed it to a top 20.
Similarly I'd suggest the Lloyd-Webber shows are different enough as they all have different judging panels and there are unique bits, it's no different to all the other similar shows - like The One And Only or Last Choir Standing - that have exactly the same mechanics. |
