That's not true Tassium, as Kenny T has pointed out the Modern Painters series rated woefully.

A couple of things reported today:

I wonder who the BBC would pick as a partner, they picked Sky for F1 but I think it's unlikely they picked them for The Olympics, maybe Channel 4?

I do hope the BBC keep hold of the Olympics 100%, the coverage they provide is second to none, and the Olympics are the biggest sporting event ever- so would be nice to keep the coverage as it is.

I was in America for Beijing 2008 and the coverage was just not anywhere near as good- they would show only races with Americans advert breaks every 10 minutes, even during races (Rebecca Adlingtons race got broken up by a break!!)..so we dont want that!

I think the BBC could split Strictly over two nights - depending on the lease of the Tower Ballroom.

I think BBC2 will have some Olympics during the day although they will still have stuff like children's programmes on. Am almost certain BBC2 will be showing Olympics at lunchtime & early evening whilst BBC1 has the news on. (I think BBC1 will be basically the Olympics Channel from 9 AM to 10 PM apart from the news.)

I bet they will. With nothing else on the Sunday they may as well. Shifting SPOTY to a Thursday is a good move as their schedule in the week before Xmas last year wasn't great so they've already strengthened it for this year.

Sky can't touch the Olympics can they? It's a listed 'crown jewel' event.

In that case, C4 seem most likely, particularly in light of their commitments to the Paralympics. It's probably too expensive for ITV as it's always in the same year as the Euros. Channel Five do seem to want more sport but I'm not sure if the Olympics is the sort of thing they're after as I suspect they want something more regular. Again it's also probably too expensive for them.

Yeah, I'm fairly sure the whole event is listed.

My main question is how on earth the BBC and another terrestrial could properly split coverage in a fair way? It's relatively simple for a football tournament but I don't see how it would work for the Olympic Games given how its presented these days.

My second question is whether ITV or Channel 4 would consider a £50m share reasonable for an event that was mostly out-of-primetime and where you didn't have free pick of all the events. Seems expensive for them, though I suppose there's a lot of prestige value in it.

Channel 4 would seem more likely I guess as they now have the Paralympics & Worth Athletics Champs. Not really sure how sharing would work beneficially for both though. Not worth C4 just showing same stuff as the Beeb as they'll get thrashed in the ratings which is the very reason ITV stopped showing the Olympics. Equally the Beeb will want to hang on to the flagship stuff like Athletics, Swimming, Cycling etc. so is it worth Channel 4 paying out for 2nd division Olympic sports which will get much smaller ratings compared to what the BBC will be showing?

Yesterday's unusual patterns repeated with Nine winning again and ABC1 beating Ten again.

Suits tanked big time. I could see that being dumped over on one of the Seven digitals soon.

Bet Seven and Nine cant wait for Rafters and Underbelly to return, the new Underbelly should be interesting as it's a period drama although Seven also has a period drama called Wild Boys.

Channel 5 would be interesting as an Olympic partner but it would probably be too expensive, The 2016 Olympics are in Rio which is only three hours behind the UK which would mean that a good number of events could be in primetime.

4 hours in summer. But still, pretty good compared to some. In fact it's almost perfect, except that the biggest events will probably happen around 12am-1am, but still you'll get events running right through the afternoon, evening and into late night.

Moving Sports Personality of The Year doesnt seem wise, but maybe im not qualfied to make that judgement.


as you say the soaps will stay on, so if ITV was to give up on Summer, maybe just them and trusted repeats. Still ITV needs to comission better shows.



I guess they also have that money due to how litlte they spend in summer, even if as you say they start out with more.



fair enough, but it will still take some time for a new show to show up internationally, channels are not going to rush them into development for no reason.

I may not even bother with TV during the Olympics, or only watch Channel 5.

It has to be shown on FTA TV. Doesn't mean Sky can't show it too. They used to show the Cup Final which was listed.

But the Olympics covers such a wide range of sports and if for example the BBC didn't want to show shooting, I assume Sky wouldn't be allowed to, as it has to be FTA!! So no one would see it.

C4 did the Olympics once with Barry Norman as the main anchor. I assume most of the time they showed different events, apart from the big ones.

But even if C4 had shown the athletics whilst BBC was showing synchronised swimming, the BBC would have won the ratings.

decent night all around, both EE and Corrie over 8 million, the EE share is low mind. Good rating for The One Show. Apart from Show Me The Funny and C4.

Glad I revise my predication for Concrete Circus.

Dire night for Ch4. At least ITV1 had the soaps to keep it afloat and the first Corrie pulled in a decent share. Show Me The Funny seems to have finally stabilised, but it couldn't go much lower really.

Decent start to possibly Ch5's biggest week ever and at least 8-10pm was above 1m.

Fantastic stuff for NT yet again.
